Imprisoned in a Venetian convent at the age of eleven Arcangela Tarabotti spent all her life in the cloister behind closed doors The convent did not have a library and there was almost no space in the nun s bedroom to keep religious books However Tarabotti determined to get an education would borrow from acquaintances in the outside world all the volumes she could get her hands on.
