The characters were well fleshed out and the emotions elicited strong I did not like the British not even Charlotte s father I have never liked the idea of occupation and bending others to the will of the occupiers I did like this story and rated it accordingly Thank you to NetGalley and Rapture Books for the ARC to read and review English I am not an historical romance fan and I went into The Fearless Highlander with low expectations but I was very surprised. In the sense that both pined for each other after Hugh escaped from the English garrison at Fort William even though their entire encounter constituted a few moments of chest wiping and short conversations They saw each other again 9 months later when Hugh s father reluctantly answered William the Orange s call to swear loyalty The relationship developed quickly and was rather rushed I would totally call it insta love They went from I am thinking of you to I love you with my whole heart in a blink of an eye after they were reunited Maybe I am not exactly a romantic but how can you know if you love someone if you have never really talked to each other In the beginning I read on with enthusiasm The writing is not bad at all and having been to Glencoe and Fort William myself and read a few books on the massacre.

something I have studied recently there was a need to know After doing some research I even appreciated the fact that Ms Jarecki stuck so closely to the facts of history while writing this book The story was well written I experienced true horror at the descriptive writing but in a heart pounding pulse racing way I m so glad I found this excellent book Happy reading English I really don t like to leave bad reviews but I ve read the book and I feel like I need to write down my thoughts This romance just didn t make sense to me There was huge potential with the romantic development here but it fell way short How can the HH fall in love after only one conversation We don t see them interact much at all and there were so many great opportunities for us to really feel their love growing I hate to say it but this was supremely disappointing for me I ve read a few of Amy Jarecki s books now and I ve noticed this stunted character and plot development elsewhere as well I realize that these novels are based on actual events but you needn t change the overall story to keep the plot engaging Thing is her voice use of description and way of writing is actually quite pleasing I just can t get past the poor plot and character development Additionally I feel that the dialogue and inner thoughts of the characters are far too melodramatic I found myself rolling my eyes and growling my disapproval when the characters said over and over again that they couldn t live without the other I like having emotional scenes but when the HH keep droning on about how much they need the other the lack of imagination and variety really gets tiring I don t want over the top love right from the beginning I d like to see it slowly burn and grow English THE FEARLESS HIGHLANDER by Amy Jarecki is Amy Jarecki has done a wonderful highlander romance Such strong characters and exciting plots never the same She really brings her characters to life I can t stop reading it and then sorry I have finished it Can t wait for her next book English OK maybe I am hard to please After reading this book and seeing all the 4 and 5 star reviews I have come to that conclusion I have read Ms Amy Jarecki before It would appear that my feelings about her books are consistent the writing is fine the story not so much This book has the Glencoe Massacre as the backdrop Hugh MacIain the heir to the Glencoe clan was saved by Charlotte Hill the daughter of an English governor After Hugh and Charlotte met each other they pretty much were in love it was interesting to read a romance story set in that period Hugh and Charlotte were separated because Hugh had to return to his clan But the massacre happened Hugh lost his father and gained the responsibility of being the laird His responsibility no longer allowed him to pursue Charlotte and somehow the relationship become impossible I mean the story has its moments But somehow I lost interests somewhere in the middle and started skimming It is just.
