I enjoyed reading The Birth Miriam Yvette builds excellent settings and well developed characters The only reason I didn t give it five stars was confusion I had when she shifted from one generation to the next I highly recommend The Birth to Urban Fantasy and Paranormal readers Kindle Edition THE BIRTH is book number one in the upcoming THE BLACK WING series by Miriam Yvette Set in the year 2200 it centers on Lola who has escaped an emotionally abusive husband in California and is hiding out and awaiting the birth of her first child in Washington State s Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest While she does so she reflects on the woman who had bequeathed onto her The Ponderosa the cabin in which she now resides and had changed her miserable existence living paycheck to paycheck into a life with promise Ms Clarisse Elliot Mable. Book the birth house But while peacefully getting used to her solitude with only her cat Kinoki as company a strange pregnant woman suddenly appears shortly after a mysterious meteor shower This woman a warrior alien nick named Avalon soon bonds with Lola and the repercussions are beyond anything Lola thought possible. The birth bear The first part of the book is written exclusively in Lola s first person limited point of view but then branches out to multiple first person limited POVs Scenes and settings are well detailed but some could benefit from a touch of line editing. The birth bear Those who would enjoy a new to Earth CAPTAIN MARVEL type story arc with the twist of Carol Danvers being pregnant may also enjoy THE BIRTH Kindle Edition Character development is definitely the author s strength Lola gradually goes from neglected child and abused wife to someone a bit stronger My favorite part of the book was definitely the relationship between Lola and Ms Clarisse It was a wonderful display of character development and Ms Clarisse s parting gift to her family was a thing of beauty My main critique is the total lack of world building The story takes place in the year 2200 but the only way you know that is because it says so in the chapter 1 heading The world two centuries from now would be very different from the current one yet in the story it s completely indistinguishable from the present day The only nod to the future is the fact that Lola still uses a gas powered truck while everyone else uses electric This would be the equivalent of someone in the 2000s riding around in a horse drawn carriage Medical technology communications technology all of it is the same as present day which led me to wonder why bother setting it into the future Why not just set the story in present day I found it rather jarring that a story that is supposed to be set in a future world is indistinguishable from this one There were also a number of typographical errors words out of order that sort of thing It happened often enough to jerk one out of the story Kindle Edition Lola is running from an abusive husband when she finds out she is pregnant Meanwhile a dangerous alien is running from her home planet under threat of death This alien is also pregnant This is the beginning of The Birth the first book in a series written by Miriam Yvette I like several things about the book I very much like the relationship between Lola and the elderly bitter woman Miss Clarisse I also like the turn to the dark in the final part of the book the scenes with the prisoners. Book the birth house What doesn t work for me in this book is the language I think it would benefit greatly from a round or two with a good copy editor There are too many issues with grammar and readability missing words semantics that don t work mixing past and present tense in the same sentence and odd word choices The good news is that this is all fixable but the book in current form reads like it was published prematurely Kindle Edition I love this book so much probably my top favorite book Kindle Edition 5 Stars for Miriam s writing that pulls you in the story right from the start The story revolves around two females both of who are pregnant The world building was sort of dystopian futuristic and what I liked about it was that it was believable The book is told from the perspective of Lola a pregnant woman who has escaped an abusive marriage I particularly enjoyed Lola s character development When I started reading it I thought it is a sci fi book but actually it s a sci fi dark fantasy and I really enjoyed it Kindle Edition Set in the near future of 2200 the story begins with Lola a young woman fleeing a troubled past and preparing to give birth while living in an isolated cabin in the forest The story then takes an intriguing turn when a meteorite shower brings the arrival of a strange woman Avalon Avalon is an alien who is also pregnant and in trouble At this point the story really ramps up and plunges into dark fantasy. Epub in pdf Yvette s style of writing immediately pulled me in and had me enthralled I particularly enjoyed the deep first person perspective and even though this is a fantasy novel the writing put me in mind of Ruth Ware and to some extent Margaret Atwood There is plenty of character development especially for Lola who starts out mistrustful and jumpy and then develops into a much stronger woman I enjoyed the multiple perspectives as well as the mix of reality and fantasy Even if you re not a fantasy fan The Birth is well worth reading just for Yvette s wonderful writing style Highly recommend Kindle Edition 4 stars. Disney junior birthday book The Birth book one in the Black Wing series by Miriam Yvette is an interesting dark fantasy novel with sci fi elements I liked the mix of aspects from different genres and the futuristic setting of life in the year 2200. The birth of jesus The novel s main character Lola is pregnant and fleeing from an abusive husband Her story begins like something out of a contemporary novel until a meteor shower hits and Lola encounters an alien warrior woman who also happens to be pregnant Worse the alien woman Avalon is being hunted and deemed a criminal by her people Now Lola s been thrown headfirst into the conflict I m not really a fan of the book s title but the front cover is brilliant and the pictures on each chapter heading were a nice touch too The writing is competent and I d say Yvette s best strength was fleshing out the small cast of characters and making them fully three dimensional It was a little jarring going from only Lola s 1st person account of things to suddenly having multiple POV chapters but it did fit the story Kindle Edition To preface books are a subjective art and you might really enjoy a book that for me was only 2 stars. The birth order book by dr. kevin leman The premise of this book is fascinating and there s an incredible story to be told here The characters are richly defined and wonderful I loooved Lola and Miss Clarisse Unfortunately there were enough issues to keep me from enjoying the potential within these pages. The birth partner book The dialogue was often clunky and that s a major pet peeve for me As interesting as the characters seemed I never became emotionally invested in them and the reason for this is the dialogue never felt organic to me I couldn t envision real people saying these things. Birth kundali free Editing was another problem There were far too many typos missing words and grammar issues for me to overlook and this also kept me from enjoying the story as much as I wanted to. Book the birth dearth Lastly this book is set 30 years in the future in a world supposedly after a climate catastrophe and with advanced communication devices and vehicles and yet nothing else about this world is different from ours It probably could have been set in modern times and nothing would change. The birthday corey feldman Now the alien world was pretty interesting and opening the book in that setting was a good choice I liked the glossary in the back to help clarify things about this gorgeous world And I also thought it neat how the author included links to the songs mentioned in the book That was cool and a good use of the e in e books To reiterate there s a truly fascinating story to read here Unfortunately for me I couldn t quite reach it through my personal issues with the storytelling But other readers before me have enjoyed it so give it a chance if it sounds to your liking Kindle Edition 35 starsInteresting imaginative dark fantasy novelIn the prologue we are taken to a new era a new planet where there s only one nation there are no politics and no country divisions Still Osois is a dangerous planet and its people the Lenurs are careful not to venture from the Empire Avalon a young woman in danger had no other choice than to leave her planet Later on we meet Lola and Ms Clariss and we witness a lovely friendship in creation Lola a young woman traumatized in her past by an unhealthy relationship with her mother lives a not so bright present married to an abusive husband Ms Clarisse was abandoned by her children from the moment they placed her in Gilia a home for seniors Lola has a chance to fight for a better life for her and her unborn baby with the help of Ms Clariss Will she move away Will she get the fresh start she deserves While enjoying the story I kept asking myself when will I see a connection between Lenurs silver headed people Helux and lots of other uncommon stuff I ve read about And finally the connection came Despite the abundant imagination rich and vivid descriptions and great character build it was different than I expected Not bad just different and a bit slow paced for my taste. The birthgap documentary This is the first book in the series and I believe the next ones will offer much of the answers that I was left with Kindle Edition
