American legion cold brook ny wait this can t be right How the hell can he be Joe Every man yet somehow be able to keep up with super soldiers mad villains and not have a pot belly He is angry because his father jumped off a bridge five years ago He s angry because his wife left him because he was angry over his father jumping off a bridge He is also angry that his uncle which was like a second father is going senile Karl seems to be going senile and saying a lot of cryptic things such as Ben s father is still alive and that Karl will do something to fix the drought affecting the local area One night Karl sneaks into a dam that a water baron is keeping closed until water prices are high enough He opens the sluice and then sabotages it meaning that it is kept open long enough to ensure the farmers get the water needed He then tells Ben that his father is alive and that he is going to take Ben to him Ben agrees. Cold legionbreaker Meanwhile all across the country other senior citizens male and female are starting to act strange one causes an elevator to fall while it has a child murder in it another blows up a prison Ben travels with his uncle to London where they meet Ursula and her employer They explain that Karl is a product of a German cold war experiment where drug users criminals and the insane were given a mind conditioning that made them the perfect soldiers When activated they feel no pain have unquestioningly loyalty and can draw on loads of military training The cold war ended and they were never activated but recently as they have begun to age quite a few of them have been activating themselves to help right wrongs they see in the community. Cold legionbreaker During this talk a gunman who had been on the floor incapacitated by Ursula s 80 year old employee wakes up A trained mercenary who can kill without remorse starts to pull a hidden gun out of his socks when Ben topples some heavy file cabinets onto his head killing him This is the first of many times that Ben will get the advantage of people who have experience than him Don t worry we are given a good reason for this he is his father s son Yes this is the reason given and no it makes no sense Ursula will take Karl to a hospital in Germany that has opened up to help deprogram these people Soon they are driving in Germany when a car chase happens Ben is able to throw off his pursuers multiple times and eventually he Karl and Ursula escape They get to the hospital only to find it on fire The hospital is next to abandoned military land Karl recognizing it goes crazy and runs off The rest of the book is Ben searching through the jungle and old base Getting captured killing people getting captured escaping people getting captured being seen as a god by the legion and the torrin because he looks like his father being captured escaping and offered sex being captured escaping and offered sex. Book Cold legionnaires It is eventually revealed that Ben s father is alive and that he was the man behind the whole program Five years ago an old colleague of his threatened to kill Jon s family if he did not come and help her perfect the method Jon pretended to commit suicide and then spent the next five years trying to help those his program had hurt He has perfected the method and he thinks it will be vital to share as during the process which he was forced into doing in the first place they discover that humanity has two brains The old brain and a new brain His process joins these two and he thinks that sooner or later humanity will stumble upon this on their own Once the brain is joined the humans become even superer They have instant recall of anything they have seen or heard extreme enhancements to senses and increased intelligence However the down side is right after the joining a person goes through a short bit of insanity and if this were to start to happen naturally it would cause chaos in the world Ben forgives his father manages to kill all of the bad mercenaries that were chasing them become a hero to his children and then gets Ursula or my tigress as he calls her cringe The end Simon Clark
