The song red hearts

But happy with what I was able to read Melisa Machado The best way I can think of to describe this is diptch is lush These are short pieces that write the body In some poems the body writes them The Paul Celan epigraphs work as these poems evoke a similar stark lyrical sense of later Celan I was particularly interested in The Red Song Melisa Machado Ljuvligt Knivskarpt och mystiskt p samma g ng Melisa Machado I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review thank you so much to Action Books for sending this to me I also reviewed this book on Youtube check it out The Red Song is a poetry collection by a Uruguayan poet.

The red song ebook review En misstagen vokal Melisa Machado I thought this is a stellar work The poems are full of innovative images and lyrical twists that kept my mind racing between the different landscapes and characterizations at work I wish it were a bit longer so as to understand the full scope and context being worked on which has been translated into English This was my first time ever reading a work of translated poetry so I was really excited to check it out Each poem features in the collection twice firstly in the original Spanish and then the English translation I feel that this would be a great feature for bilingual readers who would get to compare their own mental translations to the written translations that Seth Michelson has done for the book. The red song ebook review The poems in this book are mostly shorter works which I believe were originally published in the form of texts Although the poems are very concise the language used in the collection is very expressive even lyrical at times There is an intense focus on physicality different body parts are mention very frequently and there is a sense of kind of zooming in on different things which are written about through a very tight lens Overall the writing has this really vivid hyperfocused quality I feel this would be a good transitional work for people who are becoming immersed in poetry It combines the short style that is popular in modern poetry with rich language and interesting imagery that tends to be associated with literary poetry This means it doesn t have all the accessibility of a lot of modern poetry but it isn t too daunting to read It s also a very short book even with each poem featuring twice it s less than 100 pages long My only small issue with this book was that there were a number of recurring images that appeared in multiple works Considering this was such a short work it was quite noticeable An example is that there are two poems quite close together which discuss clavicles This isn t a big deal of course but since it isn t a long book I feel such repetition does stand out Another example is the focus on cats which really I can t complain about as a cat lover and bread This is a very small thing but it was something I picked up on throughout the book and it did cause a certain feeling of sameness in the collection Overall I liked this book it was different to any poetry I have read before and I m very grateful to have had the opportunity to review something that I might not have discovered on my own I d definitely consider reading translated works in the future I only wish I d stuck with Spanish and could have read the original poems for myself as well as the translations because I m sure they re beautiful Melisa Machado
