Giovanni falcone death
I d not heard of Susan McDuffie s series before being approached to participate in a blog tour Usually book 4 of a series is not a good place to start but the synopsis caught my attention immediately by mentioning aspects of Scottish history that I knew little about Most novels I ve read with Scottish history as their background focus on the relationship with their southern neighbour England Susan McDuffie s novel refreshingly takes the reader in the opposite direction to the north an isolated and virtually unexplored region that fascinates those that have been there and those that haven t hence the excitement when a ship docks in Leith with an unusual cargo of gryfalcons and unicorn s horns. Giovanni falcone death Susan McDuffie successfully transports you back in time and effortlessly weaves history and mystery together to produce a very entertaining story The mystery element was excellent with the identity of the murderer hidden within a number of suspects While the clues point in a certain direction the motive was cleverly preserved until the end. Giovanni falcone death I liked the main characters Muirteach and Mariota Although both seemed out of place at court they were enjoying the experience until a death shocks the castle and their investigation uncovers the seamy side of court life While Mariota can t wait to leave Muirteach begins to like some aspects of court life too much which places Mariota in danger and causes her some distress I m eager to read about these two especially the next book in the series to see how their relationship fares and how they recover from their time at court. Giovanni falcone death Disclosure As a host for a HFVBT Blog Tour I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author to read and review Kindle Edition thought that this book was excellent a really good historical fiction novel. Giovanni falcone death The story flowed really well the characters were great and the plot was very enjoyable I read a lot of historical fiction and this one stood out for me It is definitely one of the best books in its genre that I have read so far in 2018 Five stars from me very well written and I am certainly looking forward to reading from this author Kindle Edition DNF Kindle Edition I did not know when I accepted this book for review that it was part of a series It is as a matter of fact the fourth book featuring Muirteach MacPhee and his intelligent wife Mariota I will note that I didn t feel any loss for not having read the books that came before Ms McDuffie effortlessly included anything from the previous books that needed to be explained. Giovanni falcone death In this tale Muirteach and Mariota are at court with his master the Lord of the Isles A trading vessel arrives with furs and falcons Two of the birds are a rare and striking pure white in color and are very rare and desirable The owner of the boat has brought his daughter and foster son along they are jugglers and tumblers so they can entertain the court Soon He is selling his wares and people are enthralled with the birds But one day one of the falcons is found dead without a wing and the other has a broken wing. Giovanni falcone death Who would do such a thing But it only gets worse as the trader s daughter is soon found dead Now the question is who would kill a sweet innocent girl As Muirteach has experience with investigations his master asks him to help the King s man find who did the murder Soon he off following the clues but he finds himself distracted by things that threaten his investigation and his marriage. Giovanni falcone death It is always hard to write that one enjoys a murder mystery after all someone dies Often times than one someone dies But these characters are wonderful very human quite flawed and yet despite those flaws still very much in love. Death falls lightly 1972 This was a bit of a circular mystery which was good I will admit that it caught me by surprise a couple of times which is always a delight in a mystery novel The final denouement was a titch convoluted and it stretched the imagination but it did lead to fast turning of pages I ll happily go on another adventure with this pair again Kindle Edition The Death of a Falcom is a murder mystery set in Scotland 1375 and features Muirteach MacPhee and his wife Mariota While visiting Edinburgh Castle Muirteach is assisting the Lord of the Isles in negotiations with King Robert II while there a shipping vessel arrives from the far northern country Greenland The master of the ship his daughter and stepson arrive with gyrfalcons largest of the falcon species The King is interested in two of the birds but someone kills one of the birds and badly wounds the other Right after that the daughter of the shipmaster is killed With the investigative abilities of Muirteach and his wife they try to find out what happened to the birds and the young girl What they find is surprising and dangerous to both of them This is book 4 of the Muirteach MacPhee Murder Mystery series No need to read the previous books I didn t but I want to learn about Muirteach and Mariotta. Giovanni falcone death I really enjoyed this book as I am an avid fan of historical fiction especially medieval era Like I said no need to read the previous stories but if you want to learn like I do then you should The research in the story really shows as far as Greenland Norse sagas and the Inuit I really enjoyed it Love historical fiction Go check it out Kindle Edition Susan McDuffie s latest Muirteach MacPhee mystery The Death of a Falcon entered new territory with the Medieval Scottish Norse connection even a Greenlandic Inuit character who is pivotal to the story As any good mystery should the book kept me guessing as to the identity of the killer and even the motive Muirteach also has to honestly look at his own failings and flaws which sets us up nicely for the next in the series Kindle Edition 4. Giovanni falcone death 5 stars rounded to 5 Thanks to Susan McDuffie for sharing very enjoyable ARC with me Muirteach and Mariota are a very unique couple and this outing proved to be no different I was a bit disappointed with how readily Muirteach responded romantically to the overtures of what turned out to be the anti heroine but heartened by the ending of the book that reconciliation will occur. Giovanni falcone death There were a lot of murders and animal maiming which also ultimately were ascribed to this same unpleasant but lovely Ingvalt Her relationship to the characters involved revealed at the end was startling so how she fooled Muirteach with her character was readily seen Her links to Greenland were very unique and almost unbelievable. Giovanni falcone death Startling to me was how much credence right there in Scotland was given to nobility and how quickly accused underlings were imprisoned and held in terrible conditions The Lady Ingvelt married to a nobleman was given great latitude to continue murdering and maiming until Muirteach confronted her The ensuing struggle for her to poison and kill took her to her death and almost took Muirteach with her A great read and the next one hopefully will see them home with a child I want to mention Susan McDuffie s very fine historical author s note about these distant places and their connection to Medieval Scotland. Giovanni falcone death Muirteach and Mariota unaccustomed to the sophistication of castle life initially find pleasure in the heady and flirtatious glamor of the royal court Then sudden and unexpected cruelty followed by the senseless death of a beautiful young girl plunge the couple into a murky sea of alliances and intrigue that stretches from Scotland across the icy western ocean to the far northern lands of the Norse leaving trails of treachery and murder in its wake The Death of a Falcon A Muirteach MacPhee MysterySusan McDuffie has been a devotee of historical fiction since her childhood when she believed she had mistakenly been born in the wrong century Her discovery that Clorox was not marketed prior to the 1920s reconciled her to modern life Susan writes historical mysteries set in medieval Scotland and has also published Regency short stories The Muirteach MacPhee Mysteries include A MASS FOR THE DEAD Five Star 2006 and THE FAERIE HILLS Five Star April 2011 Additional information about Susan s work can be found on her website site_link www.
