Both Christopher and Abby lost a parent and was not really interested to go to this weekend Grief Retreat Abby would rather go to her soccer practice and Christopher do not want to talk about his father s death with other people But they get to meet other kids who had gone through same lost as they have experienced Kids like Gustavo who had been doing this retreat for 3 years in a row and is now Eugene s instructor counselor assistant Gustavo s adorable younger sister Camila quiet Antione mysterious and gothic Felicia and their instructor counselor Eugene. Planet griefwert 5 stars Great middle grade exploration of grief and loss Moving emotional realistic I think this book could make kids who have lost someone feel seen and known and less alone It can give kids who have not experienced loss a lot to think about and ways to empathize with their friends who have Perfect for classroom and home reading. Planet grieftech I received an electronic review copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Paperback What most people don t understand is that when you re a kid and you lose someone you love you feel like you ve been exiled to another planet Planet Grief. Book Planet griefshare This book is only about 200 pages and I could have easily read it in one sitting if I don t have work Anyway this is a Middle Grader contemporary book with two POV the plot twist and characters are all amazing You can easily emphatized with these kids and admire their maturity I have experienced a lost but not at a young age I just wanted to reach out and hug them all It is a poignant story and I loved how these kids learned and developed slowly as they faced and deal with their grief. Planet griefwert The author Monique Polak definitely researched this topic and it is very well written My only problem is about the Felicia part I m just thinking that in a retreat like this people usually checked ID s for security purposes so the situation regarding Felicia is kinda not plausible for me But other than that it s definitely a great story I give this 4 out of 5 I definitely recommend people to buy this book when it comes out on Sept 2018 Paperback Grief eats at your heart It follows you around and jumps out to remind you of what you have lost You want to call the person who has died to tell them something but they are no longer there. Planet griefprevention 1.19 This book is about a work shop for young adults on how to deal with grief The story is told by the two protagonists Abby and Christopher Each has had an overwhelming death Abby her mother and Christopher her father There is also Jessie who appears to have lost both her parents but here are clues that there is something she isn t saying. Book Planet grief definition This is probably a good book for those who are going through grief But I had some problems with it For one Christopher and Abby both have the same way of talking the same voice and I had to keep checking to see who was telling the story The other problem I had was I did not get engaged with both I didn t end up crying my eyes out the way I would have thought I would have with a book about grief Good story other than that Good resolutions. Book Planet griefshare Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review Paperback I loved crying all the way through this book My only complaint was that sometimes I wasn t sure if I was reading Abby s or Christopher s story as chapters changed Paperback I can t say I read a lot of middle grade fiction This says it s intended for ages 9 But I won this so I decided to give it a read before passing it on to my children I imagine if you had a 9 15ish year old who had lost someone in their lives recently this would be a good book for them to read The characters are at a grief retreat and the reader basically follows them through grief counseling It could help a young reader understand what they re feeling Honestly however I don t see a young person truly enjoying it outside of having a reason to read it The book doesn t stray far enough away from the very real sense of didacticism to be read purely for enjoyment IMO But all in all for what it is it s not bad Paperback
What a crappy way to spend a weekend The always sarcastic Abby would rather be playing soccer and the cagily quiet Christopher thinks a grief retreat is a waste of time Neither of them wants to spend two days talking about their feelings But despite their best efforts to stay aloof Abby and Christopher are drawn into the lives of the other kids at the retreat Maybe their stories will make them rethink how they are dealing with their own losses Planet GriefPlanet Grief by Monique PolakYoung Abby does not want to go to Grief Retreat neither does Christopher The Purpose is to bring together young people and help them cope with the death of loved ones Once there Abby and Christopher meet others their age and soon begin to realize they are not as alone as they thought they were A fantastic story dealing with death through the eyes of young teens children Told through alternating voices I was actually able to feel what each person was feeling It felt as if I was part of their Grief Group Monique Polak approached a difficult subject with poise compassion and true to life experiences Death comes at any age and in many different ways I highly recommend Planet Grief to middle school young adult adult readers A true five star read Paperback This was a solid book It wasn t exactly my cup of tea because it s not about my kind of grief but that s okay I think it would be really helpful for middle grade kids tweens who have lost a loved one It seemed a bit didactic The Felicia twist was interesting I wish things with Eugene had been explained This book held my attention but ultimately wasn t very compelling Christopher and Abby s sections sounded identical I couldn t tell their voices apart at all Paperback This review and many like it are available at Read Till Dawn. Book Planet griefing Going in I was a little nervous that Planet Grief would be too heavy for me A book about grief counselling doesn t exactly sound like the happiest of summer reads especially when I already feel antsy thinking about death. Book Planet grief I m glad I gave in to my curiosity and picked it up though because it manages to hit all the right spots Abby and Christopher are realistic and sympathetic leads and the other characters in the group are even interesting and compelling The various exercises Eugene the counsellor has the kids do and the conversations he supports them through are fascinating to watch. Planet Grief bookstore Basically this is a book about kids who have to be strong enough to pull through experiencing something no child should have to face the death of a close family member There s no strong plot to pull the book along though there is a climax and the story is really driven by the stories of the kids and their struggles There s no sugar coating no skating past the hard emotions of losing a parent or a sibling and I personally really appreciated peeking in on the grief process of these characters. Planet griefwert My only real complaint about the book is that there was one storyline added just to add drama I think which I thought was a bit ridiculous and unnecessary It kind of drew attention away from the core of the book It wasn t a huge deal though and I think Polak handled it in a way that still fit well with the rest of the book I should also add that there s a family coming to the grief counselling which has two mothers and there are a few mentions of how unusual it is to have a maman and a mom It s not made into a big issue so I don t think it would bother most readers but I wanted to mention it just in case. Planet griefworks All in all I really well enjoyed might not be the right word to describe how I felt while reading Planet Grief I appreciated it let s say I liked it I m glad that I read it and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in it. Book Planet grief What other books about children dealing with grief do you recommend My all time favorite is Suzanne LaFleur s Love Aubrey Disclaimer I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest revew Paperback This was a cute book but I couldn t finish it I don t know if it was the subject matter or the fact that it moved way too slowly for me but it didn t really hold my interest for very long It mainly deals with teenagers who have lost parents and other close people so it would be great for that age group However as someone who is in her 50s it bored me The slightly annoying teenagers didn t help either Paperback This is an excellent middle grade story about children who experience the death of a family member Told with depth of character and just the right amount of humour and pain Paperback., Planet griefprevention flags The story mostly revolved within this two day retreat The plot development.
