Sword of Peace (Sword of Münster #1) By Louisa M. Bauman
Sword of war and peace
Will she betray her best friend to save her own life Anna a spinster at twenty has lost her family to persecution and moves to peaceful Amsterdam to escape the violence of the German Reformation But then Charles V arrives on the scene on a quest to rid his empire of this nest of heretics in the Netherlands Must Anna lose her loved ones all over again After uncovering Maeyken s dangerous secret Anna must decide whether to turn in her friend as Charles decree demands or do nothing and risk execution herself Anna wants to do the right thing but what is right How can she tell who is a True Soldier of Christ Is it the Spanish soldiers who hunt human beings for going to the wrong church or the hunted ones who soldier on in their faith despite persecution Adriaen a recent widower and a leader of the radical new faith is unlikely to survive the purging of heretics Anna rejects her growing love for him realizing his life might soon be over And why would he forgive her for what she has done to his family This historical novel portrays the birth of the Amish and Mennonite faith a faith precious than life Perfect for fans of lesser known history which entertains as well as educates GRAB YOUR COPY TODAY Sword of Peace Sword of M nster 1 As someone that grew up in Anabaptist churches the history was very familiar to me in this story I felt transported into the books of my childhood as I read which was not altogether bad The book is well written the history clearly told in a modern style than many of the books on the same topic I just felt my heart break again and again as I read when I realized the suffering they went through I would say that if you are wanting to know about anabaptist history this is a good start on some of the parts of it This one goes towards the end with some info about the Munster rebellion which really was a very minor part of Anabaptist history but still a part of it This would be a good read for someone adult or older high school that is learning about the Anabaptists in school or wanting to know There is some mild romance but that is really not the focus of the book It does discuss some of the violence in mild detail that they suffered which could be offensive or hard to stomach for some that forgo that Louisa M Bauman As someone who does not practice any religious ways I must say that I enjoyed this book very much It kept me on the edge and the story goes at a steady pace as we are immediately introduced to the consequences of being an anabaptist These characters were forced through public humiliation execution being separated from their families and forced to live a life as an outcast if they were lucky enough to not be caught by authorities Ana s family was killed in Germany before she moved to Amsterdam so naturally like any sane person she wanted nothing to do with the anabaptist She wanted to live her peaceful life as a good catholic girl One of things I didn t care for about Ana was that she had this obsessive love for her best friends husband Ana was a lonely woman who struggled with self esteem issues that women from any period in time could relate to even today Her obsessive love for this man definitely played a part in how she ended up in her situation She made irrational choices that only a woman in love would make in hopes that one day he would return the love for her The ending of the book was rather abrupt and it left me wanting to know about the fate of these characters But then I reminded myself that this was a romance so on that note it ended perfectly This book was well written and was just as educational as it was emotional and entertaining Louisa M Bauman I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about Protestant roots and the early beginnings of the Anabaptist religion and the Protestant reformation beginnings Mrs Bauman interweaves historical fact with a lovely CLEAN story about a young woman who begins as a Catholic and ends up converting to the Anabaptist faith The situations described seem to be eyewitness accounts of the severe persecution of anyone who left the Catholic faith The Catholics would hunt them down torture them trying to get information out of them starve the victims and some were burned alive for refusing to agree with the Catholic faith The story also has a well thought out relationship between the lead character Anna and some Anabaptist men and women and even their children An enjoyable read albeit intense sometimes and even frightening but so well written that I can t say enough about how VALUABLE this book is to Christians Romans 10 9 13 John 3 16 21 Louisa M Bauman This story is set in the time of the Reformation. The book of peace The main character is a self proclaimed old maid at age 20 Being a devout Roman Catholic girl the Reformation brings with it unexpected and unwanted spiritual struggles While I always think of the Reformation as a Lutheran experience this book focuses instead on the changes the Anabaptist movement brought to that time and why they believed what they did and broke with Luther I could not put this book down My heart hurt for Anna the whole way through I love learning history this way through the eyes of a headstrong young woman who struggles with the deep faith she has in her soul and how to live faithfully in this confusing often hateful world She was constantly wondering if she could be faithful unto death if it was required of her. Sword of peace epub ebook free Anna had many truly horrible experiences in her young life Betrayal death suffering war sickness prejudice in the name of Christ danger and fear are her companions as she all the while longs for love and a family of her own Louisa M Bauman An intriguing look at a chaotic time in Amsterdam s historyThis book gives you a fascinating peek into what must have been a terrifying period of history to live through Told from the perspective of a Catholic woman who struggled with her faith the story is richly interwoven with historical facts It highlights the persecution of the Anabaptists a religion that was diametrically opposed to the Catholic Church Louisa M Bauman Find this and other reviews at don t know what I expected from Louisa M Bauman s Sword of Peace but the novel proved both thought provoking and historically interesting. Sword of peace snow camp nc In terms of scope the story covers the birth Anabaptist faith a Christian denomination that includes the Amish the Mennonites and the Hutterites I m not particularly religious but enjoyed exploring the history of the Anabaptists and Reformation I d categorize the religious themes as moderate but I did not find them at all abrasive. Sword of war and peace Anna is a na ve and inexperienced heroine but I felt her perspective well suited to her arc I also appreciated the setting of the novel and portrait it painted of sixteenth century Amsterdam Bauman s prose is easy to read and thought the story itself is not overly complicated I found I enjoyed the I time I spent with this piece and wouldn t have any trouble recommending to those looking for an off the beaten path historicals Louisa M Bauman 2. Sword of peacekeeper level 5 stars really The writing was good and the historical aspect was well researched and very interesting Usually novels set during the Reformation tend to focus on Lutherans or Calvinists but this one follows the struggle for freedom of the Anabaptists My biggest issue was with several key plot points There were a few instances when the characters behaved in a veru uncharacteristic way for someone in their situation And since the plot hangs on the results of those actions choices it kind of throws the whole book Louisa M Bauman Well written and filled with engaging characters this book is as entertaining a history lesson as you will ever get The book is rich with historical details It s obvious that the author researched meticulously for this book The characters are interesting and there is action to be found on almost every page There s even a little bit of romance sprinkled throughout the story As someone deeply interested in history I know a fair amount about the Reformation era however I knew very little about the Annabaptists part in the Reformation until I read this book. Epub sword of peace review This book held my attention to the very end and I sincerely hope the author continues the story in another book Louisa M Bauman Reformation What it felt like to be a devout Catholic and discover the heresy that surrounds youThis story gives you the feeling of how one felt during the Reformation period You get to go through the perils of a devout Catholic Anna who chooses to give aid to the Anabaptist all the while she questions her own choice of religion It was educational as well as entertaining The story whisks you away to that time period and you feel like you re actually there experiencing the trials and tribulations that Anna faces throughout the story Louisa M Bauman I love historical novels and Louisa M Bauman s SWORD OF PEACE weaves together a dramatic story of religious revolution together with a descriptive account of life in the Netherlands in the mid 1500 s SWORD OF PEACE offers the harsh elements of an artic life style sacrifice romance friendships and religious conflict with the tenuous day by day fight for religious freedom leading to the Reformation in Europe.
