And drama I liked that it featured a doctor and nurse helping out in a city recovery effort after a major natural disaster It was wonderful to see friends sticking up for and supporting one another The way these characters overcome obstacles was inspiring. Religion Spirituality In Times Gone by r The one drawback for me was that the leading lady used deception to accomplish her goal toward the end and never recognized this as a wrong and devious method of getting what she wanted It was hard for me to believe she had lowered herself to the same level as the bad guy instead of standing tall and firm for her morals and for what is right in the face of trials This completely took the steam out of the finale for me.

Romance I loved the setting for this book I admire Tracie Peterson for her ability to write these wonderful stories I don t think that much is written about the earthquake of San Francisco in 1906 Tracie writes in a way that I could imagine myself being in with the people and what they went through during that terrible time I loved the way the people of the community came together in their time of need and helped each other I think it s awful that it takes something like this to make people come together We should always help because we never know who might need it 9 11 is a perfect example for today s catastrophe We as a nation came together and helped those in need I m wondering if God plans these disasters to make us wake up and realize what is going on around us I d like to think so But then after everything settles down we go back to our old way of life never giving our Lord a second thought That s terrible I liked how the girls and their friends helped wherever people needed it I understand how Kenzie felt When I broke up with my ex he took everything with him including my heart It took me a long long time to understand why he did that and it also took me long time to trust another man All men are not alike my head says but.

Kenzie Gifford flees to San Francisco to start her life over determined never to love again She s made new friends and has a good job in the office of her cousin s chocolate factory The only thorn in her side is Dr Micah Fisher who insists on pursuing her despite her constant rejection Then the Great 1906 Earthquake strikes the city and everything changes The devastation all around her makes Kenzie reevaluate her outlook on life and possibly even her feelings for Micah But then her world is rocked again when her ex fiancE appears full of apologies and determined to win her back But Arthur already broke her heart once Does she dare trust him again The sudden arrival of a hidden danger will expose the motivations of all involved but it could cost Kenzie her life as well as her heart In Times Gone By Golden Gate Secrets 3 In Times Gone By is just the sort of book you hope for when you ve been thoroughly enjoying a series and are hoping that things will come to a fitting and exciting conclusion Each novel in this series has had its own unique flavour and each has been equally satisfying with this last novel perhaps even being so Kenzie grabbed my attention in the first novel for her grit and pluck but also because of the deep wound she was harbouring from her past something us readers can really relate to Watching her confront that wound and then come to a place of peace and wholeness made for some heart warming reading indeed But I think what I most enjoyed about this book is not even just her own story arc as good as it was Rather it was the way that Peterson continued to weave the lives of all these characters together in a remarkable way showing the power of grace and loyalty and powerful friendship that they extend to each other In the case of Kenzie herself adding in some mystery and suspense to her story and of course some heart warming romance made for an even better journey to the end As the story of Kenzie and Micah Judith and Caleb and Camri and Patrick drew to a close I was left with a big smile and the sense that I d somehow made friends with these characters over the course of the series While I also enjoy the type of series where each novel can be read as a standalone book the Golden Gate Secrets series has been a far richer experience because of how Peterson has truly intertwined the lives of these characters in each novel while providing each heroine with a chance to shine Kenzie certainly does so with her part in this concluding book and I am certain that you are going to love In Times Gone By just as much as I have. Historical Fiction In Times Gone by meaning Of course like any society there are also those who care for nothing but getting their own way Judith s only living relative Victoria is one such character She is not the only unlikable and manipulative one This author has written a large number of books but this was the first one of hers I have read It is very definitely Christian fiction a genre I don t read a lot of So I was surprised how much I enjoyed this novel. Historical Fiction In Times Gone by povest The ending was a bit too neatly tied up for my liking but overall I really engaged with this story and would be interested to read the next one in the series It is a story of friendship family love hopedanger and choices Those who enjoy a well told story with a decidedly Christian outlook should enjoy it as much as I did Historical Fiction Religion Spirituality Romance Peterson s newest novel takes you into an early 20th century San Francisco filled with intrigue danger and political corruption While this is the third book in the Golden Gate Secrets series and I have not read the first two I was still able to enjoy the story and was not confused about anything that happened in the first two books Our main characters Kenzie and Micah are both interesting characters if a little one dimensional While understandable Kenzie s fear of being in a romantic relationship felt too drawn out and I found myself getting annoyed with her instead of having compassion I liked Micah and his persistence in not letting her go but at the same time he was a little too pushy for my liking Secondary characters such as Caleb Camri Patrick and Judith were all very interesting and I enjoyed getting bits and pieces of their stories The storyline centers around the Great 1906 Earthquake and I found the history wrapped around that event very interesting I would have liked a little details to help set the scene but overall it was quite good Peterson s writing style is very simplistic which doesn t lend to a very authentic historical feel to me in both dialogue and descriptions and that is probably my biggest issue with this book Overall while not my particular cup of tea I did enjoy In Times Gone By and am interested to read the rest of the series CONTENT NOTE Recommended for ages 16 There is a fair amount of romance spread throughout the book with kissing hugging etc Also mentions of not wanting to be alone with a man for fear he would do something untoward and other such vague references. Gonet to the store FTC disclosure I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley I was not required to write a positive review These are my honest thoughts and opinions Historical Fiction Religion Spirituality Romance Tracie Peterson has written over a hundred novels so of course she knows the mechanics of a good novel and keeps pumping them out With her Golden Gate Secrets series I came to know her writing and her characters a lot better I have enjoyed this series from the amazing characters to the plot Peterson captured my attention and didn t let go The Golden Gate Secrets series involves three women who meet on a train and follow their adventures as they arrive in a new city and ends right after the fire and earthquake of 1906 Peterson does a wonderful job at using her words to bring this world and the characters to life on the page They jumped off the page and directly into my imagination I enjoyed this series The romance isn t over the top but it is definitely there Peterson didn t make me cringe with too much romance it occurred naturally over the course of the story It was predictable and I knew exactly how the story and series would end I was glad to finally learn about Kenzie and see her story and background from her perspective Kenzie was a strong heroine even though she appears to be a major introvert in the first two installments in this series I liked Micah the hero too He loved Kenzie and was willing to do anything for her just like most heroes in a novel do The plot kept my attention I enjoyed the mystery elements with Arthur Morgan and Victoria They helped move the plot along I didn t have a hard time focusing on the plot I wanted Overall In Times Gone By by Tracie Peterson is a wonderfully crafted story that fit in nicely with the first two books The plot worked well for the time period and the predictable romance filtered in and out I loved the returning characters who supported Kenzie and helped cement my interest in the story Fans of Karen Barnett and Susan Anne Mason might enjoy this novel Historical Fiction Religion Spirituality Romance What a lovely story of family regrets hopes which was quite a let down after the buildup of the previous two books and even the story within this book Historical Fiction Religion Spirituality Romance 
In Times Gone By is the third novel in Golden Gate Secrets series by Tracie Peterson It is April of 1906 in San Francisco and the city has just suffered devastating earth quakes Kenzie Gifford and her friends have relocated to a large warehouse to help those in need The warehouse will be turned into a shelter for women and children which will be called Shelter Rock Kenzie at her friend s urging recently wrote her ex fianc Judith Whitley s cousin arrives in town and is outraged to learn that Judith controls the purse strings as well as being her guardian Victoria is determined to get free An unexpected ally can help Victoria achieve her goal What decision will Kenzie make in the end How will Judith Kenzie and Camri s stories play out In Times Gone By is the final book in the Golden Gate Secrets series I do recommend reading the books in the Golden Gate Secrets series in order I found In Times Gone By to be well written with a gentle pace I would have preferred of a page turner Tracie Peterson captured the time period with the devastation of the earthquake the clothing conveyances politics and attitudes of the people Tracie Peterson manages to incorporate the historical events seamlessly into the story Corruption was rampant in government and it was tough to fight the political machine as we see with Patrick Murdock s story The characters are developed and they continued to grow over the course of the series While In Times Gone By focuses on Kenzie we also find out what happens with Camri and Judith Plus Judith s relation Victoria comes to San Francisco and manages to cause problems I was not fond of Victoria and her shenanigans I was especially disappointed that the villains did not get what was coming to them a great injustice Kenzie s indecision where romance is concerned is understandable but I felt it was drawn out I admired Micah s persistence where Kenzie was considered but it can come across as pushy nowadays it would probably land him in jail and with a restraining order against him Christianity is an essential part of the story The main characters beliefs are a part of who they are and it shows in their everyday lives having faith praying following God s will and the path he has for their lives The action picks up near the end of the book and the conclusion will leave readers smiling I was happy the author provided an epilogue I am giving In Times Gone By 4 out of 5 stars I liked it Fans of historical fiction and Tracie Peterson will be satisfied with the final book in the Golden Gate Secrets series Historical Fiction Religion Spirituality Romance Now this is the third book in this series and you might want to treat yourself and read them too but you can read this one alone the author gives you enough to keep you up to date.
