L G Cullens was born and raised in 1940 s Wyoming with Shoshone friends his naturalist grounding Then following a period of military service he attended various schools in pursuing careers in civil engineering and computer sciences moving eastward as better schools and work opportunities presented themselves Finally in his fifties in New England and weary of the rat race he practiced woodworking decorative arts in a home shop Since with diminished dexterity having read extensively throughout his life he does a bit of writing A natural sciences passion is evinced in his art and writing I m looking for active GR friends that are eclectic readers with a shared interest in eco lit and that review a fair number of the books they ve read At my point in life reading is a major pastime and finding books I might enjoy is a chore It doesn t matter to me whether a book is traditionally or self published there are good and bad reasons for both but rather how well it is written and edited if the subject matter intrigues me and if it makes me think My old eyes are partial to ebooks that I can adjust the font size of Librarian s Note Alternate cover edition for ISBN 9781311100580 THIS BOOK HAS LONG SINCE BEEN UNPUBLISHED IT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE NOR WILL IT EVER BE Calan s EdenA sweet heartfelt book about a mans journey through life From humble country roots through friendships heartbreaks war and the challenges of professional life to his arrival at his own eden in his twilight years This is accomplished though a few time jumps from youth toYoung adulthood then from the man in his prime to middle aged and finally to his golden years The book takes a little while to get going and is a little didactic in places but by the end I felt it was effective in imparting some wisdom about the natural world and out place in it and there are some emotional moments toward the end I felt were genuinely touching This book is pretty far removed from what I usually read but keeping that in mind and judging the book entirely on its own merits I felt it was an impressive debut and worth reading English
