I received this book as part of a goodreads giveaway To be honest the book started out pretty slow and I probably would ve stopped reading if it weren t the fact that I got it for free But I m so glad I continued reading because I ended up loving this book Once the plot picked up I found myself being pulled along an emotional rollercoaster ride There were points where I stop reading to take all the emotions of the book in I would highly recommend this book Philip Hoy A very real look into the harsh reality of cyber bulling in today s high schools I really liked how the author threw a little twist of supernatural abilities in the story which correlated with the English reading assignment of The Crucible It was very obvious that the author is not only a high school teacher who see s the every day struggles our children are facing in school.

But he s also educated and able to weave a very nice story in a professional manner The reason I gave this story 4 stars instead of 5 is because I got a little bored during the second half I wish there was a bit suspense that kept my attention I also think the author missed a huge opportunity by not marketing this book It s as if he wrote the book then vanished into thin air It s a shame because this is a really good book Philip Hoy Philip Hoy is a high school English teacher by day and a short story author novelist and poet by night When he is not creating lesson plans or grading essays he is writing He lives in Southern California with his wife Magdalena also a teacher. Book the revenge artist summary The Revenge Artist is just a tad bit similar to your typical high school story just your shy and utmost attractive antisocial art freak developing the hots for the most popular boy in the school But wait can t forget the aid of witchcraft as an added bonus Aside from the whole black magic situation the novel covers themes not seen in your typical YA novel From topics of bullying sexuality first loves and so forth Hoy digs deep on these topics in contrast of simply covering the surface and keeping it PG as any other YA author would In this manner I felt deeply connected with the characters as I too have dealt and continue to deal with these real life situations Moreover ther is a certain amount of untranslated Spanish in the book which personally I enjoyed Given my roots I love being represented in novels whether through the characters through the setting or through the language which in this case hit all 3 points To those unable to understand you might want to have google translate handy while you read The extra effort is worth it. The Revenge artistyle Things I Liked REVENGE PLOT Crucible references The Crucible is still one of my favorite plays and Abigail is still one of my favorite characters Her anger and sense of vendetta certainly provide fuel for a revenge plot and as a disgraced woman she parallels Evelyn in other ways as well Weirdly I liked Garvey and Evelyn s relationship I would have liked to see of Garvey after The Incident and find out what he really thought of the matter Vengeance on him came to quickly and to me he felt like the real archnemesis not Brianna de la Torre Evelyn s two best friends Denise and Karen Denise will be by your side no matter what Karen will punch a bitch What else do you need The doubtful feeling of is this actually witchcraft or a ton of coincidences Things I Did Not Like So Much Didn t really care about Sammy either way tbh The ending felt inconclusive Sois Evelyn really willing to hand over all her problems to the authorities It just feels a little anticlimactic Also does she have magical powers or not I mean nearly everything she draws happens but Sammy doesn t forget her which should have happened So it feels very ambiguous and I really wanted to know OverallKind of curious whether the sequel resolves certain elements but I m not sure if I ll get around to reading it Pretty good book lots of drama over bullying and the like but not completely satisfying at the end Philip Hoy Evelyn Hernandez isn t popular at school She s isn t like everyone else in her class she stands out Evelyn draws and she sews her own dresses She has two very loyal best friends but she also has a lot of enemies She always has to be careful but she can manage Things are about to get worse though She s sitting next to Garvey and he seems to like her He even asks her to go to a party with him Only nothing is as he made it seem and Evelyn wants revenge She finds a way to do so by accident her drawings can make things happen What will be the consequences if Evelyn makes sure bad things will happen to her enemies The Revenge Artist is an original story about a girl whose drawings are special I liked that idea very much Evelyn is a lovely girl she s kind and she s not afraid to dress differently I love that she has such a great distinct personality Evelyn is a high school junior and a lot of the scenes in the book are set at her school Philip Hoy describes them in such a fantastic way It s like the reader is in the classroom with her which makes the story realistic and it really comes to life There s one absolutely awful scene and I felt so bad for Evelyn that I had tears in my eyes. The Revenge artistudio loker There s magic in The Revenge Artist and still the story feels like it could have actually happened That made this book interesting to read for me Fortunately Evelyn has friends she can trust and she isn t completely on her own Her conscience struggles with good versus evil Philip Hoy describes that in a detailed and genuine way I loved the book talk and that there s a story he uses as a reference The Revenge Artist is a fabulous intriguing read I can t wait to read the next Evelyn Hernandez book Philip Hoy UncagedBooks.
