Like Harley Quinn Poison Ivy Pamela Isley is another female Batman villain who s been given her own title because she s apparently a good person now And also like Harley the creators behind Ivy aren t quite sure what to do with her. Fiction Poison ivy Writer Amy Chu is quick to make familiar connections for the audience The kids from Gotham Academy cameo on a field trip to Pamela s new lab funded by the Wayne Foundation followed shortly by Harley Other than that there s not much of a story though the final page reveals the story direction the series is headed in Besides glossing over how and why Ivy s now intent on being good there s talk about new life extending research because on top of overpopulation we now need everyone living twice as long Not exactly good for The Green Ivy Since when did she choose humans over plants anyway I suppose Ivy does steal the living fossil from Southern Angola by taking it from its natural environment back to Gotham so there s a little bit of bad still in her We re also shown that Ivy s a tough cookie in case new readers weren t aware of that beating up some diamond trafficking thugs in Angola with her plant powers and then kicking in some bar jerks with Harley We re also reminded she and Harley are a couple because that s not mentioned every single time they re together Artist Clay Mann shows off Ivy and Harley s curves whenever he can with some sharp inks from I m assuming his brother Seth Mann and some fine colours from Ulises Arreola The artwork s not that special but it s decent Poison Ivy 1 is not a terribly impressive first issue Though Chu firmly ensconces Ivy within Batman s world she doesn t make a great case for why she should have her own book I m glad DC are bringing in female creators and female main characters but equality quotas aside I d like to read quality DC comics judging by this dull first issue this series unfortunately doesn t look to be one of them English B 77% GoodNotes Read in trade paperback Collective review for issues 1 6 can be found here Poison Ivy Cycle of Life and Death English I m giving it a chance but Harley Quinn monopolizing half the comic didn t do it any favors when it s already so short Not a huge fan of the story either Ivy is once again embroiled in some plant based murder she didn t commit but is likely to be blamed for all the same As in every story involving Ivy ever I m waiting to see if it gets better but as its only a miniseries at least it s not a long commitment English I received a free eARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review In this series Poison Ivy gets a new job at the Gotham Botanical Gardens thanks to her new mentor Luisa Cruz. Fanfiction poison ivy foot massage There s not that much going on in this issue but since it s just the first one in a mini series it was a great introduction It also ends with a mysterious murder at Ivy s new workplace and I can t wait to see what happens next More reviews on my blog Lipstick and Mocha English I enjoy comic books graphic novels and manga but I am not an expert on any of them A dabbler I would say I like the character of Poison Ivy and when I saw this was available for request wish on NetGalley I wished for it I m glad I did only it s part one of six so now I have to read the rest of it Cliffhanger The artwork was gorgeous and while the Kindle version downloaded had no words I could follow the idea of the story with the pictures only I did download it onto my computer and was able to read the story too which was nice It did flesh the story out some All in all I will read the rest of them and recommend them to the comic book fans that come to our store Four solid stars My thanks to NetGalley and DC Entertainment for an eARC copy of this to read and review English

Life Death Poison Ivy has power over both But can she keep her friends and hold down a regular job at the same time As Dr Pamela Isley she joins the prestigious plant sciences department at Gotham Botanical Gardens but things quickly get complicated when a fellow scientist is murdered and it looks like the work of Ivy Don t miss the start of this new 6 issue miniseries Poison Ivy Cycle of Life and Death 2016 1My usual disclaimer I don t usually read mainstream superhero comics I don t understand a ton of continuity etc so take my reviews with a grain of salt I saw Amy Chu speak at Flamecon this summer and she said some insightful things about writing a character who is usually portrayed as super sexual She said she meant to write Pam Isley in these books as less of a femme fatale and as someone operating at a remove from humanity both because of her hybrid physiology and her role as a super scientist That s an intriguing slant but I don t know that I always got that from reading these stories I will say that this book had interesting ideas than most even if the plot sort of reminds me of a rehashed House Garden from Batman The Animated Series but that was a great episode so why not If this is meant to be a progressive take on Poison Ivy s character making her multi faceted instead of just a plant themed sexpot it s unfortunately undermined throughout by the extremely cheesecake y pose y art I ve always felt that the Harley Ivy relationship is kinda tacked on and I don t understand why people give it such weight which is why I flipped through the Harley stuff in this book Who currs There are some moments of violence by Ivy usually inflicted on men that felt pointless to me I think they were either supposed to be you go girl moments because both murders were of men who had done something ostensibly punishableor maybe they were meant to show that Ivy doesn t really care about human life But then she goes on and on about how beautiful life is so that s confusing Ivy s written here as an almost completely sympathetic character which is a bummer because I liked her best in Batman TAS when she was a complicated monster My favorite parts were in the beginning when Ivy is still working in the lab and is really bad at relating to the people around her Would like to see of that weirdness Anyway fun book could ve used different art but what do I know English Yay Harley and Ivy together It s been so long since I ve been out of comics that I think the last time I saw them together was Batman The Animated Series Ivy seems to have gone straight and is working in a lab funded by the Wayne Foundation But she s lonely I don t need anybody I just wish I wish I had someone like me Hmmmm who hasn t felt like that Sometimes supervillains seems so unrelatable But it s wonderful when they re written to be related to But before this comic starts it s over Well it is a single issue This is why I love reading trades no cliffhangers But I really enjoyed this one and want to see where it s going Recommended Especially if you re as big a fan of Poison Ivy as I am Thanks to NetGalley and DC Comics for a copy in return for an honest review English More reviews and no fluff on the blog Poison Ivy Cycle of Life and Death we have a Pamela Isley attempting to concentrate only on her plants and avoiding the whole superhero super villain scene There is a lot of set up here but not much pay off until the last panel starts Isley s quest Unfortunately we have to go through a lot of filler in order to get there Especially considering how short this issue is to begin with there s not much to go on.
