When you ve read as many of these early to mid 20th century books on philosophy written from a viewpoint of Christian Apologetics as I have the reasons for this are strictly between myself and my therapist Dr Bottle Of Whiskey by the way you start to notice a pattern They start off fairly interesting with a generalized fairly unbiased view of the subject at hand In the case of this book it s a rundown on the views of several German and French existentialist philosophers It kind of draws you in and gets you sort of interested in seeing how the author will synchronize this with Christianity But what inevitable follows instead is a lot of Bible verses and faith based positions that leave you yawning There s nothing wrong with faith but why bother starting a seemingly scholarly work if you re not going to support your argument with anything but Faith is faith it s not really a compelling argument if you ask me just a personal feeling. Book christianity and existentialism summary Oh and spoiler alert this book doesn t even bother doing anything interesting like trying to shoe horn Existentialism into Christian thought It just outright rejects it and justifies it with a Bible verse If Existentialism rejects the Word of God and seeks its starting point in human sovereignty it lacks the the light which enables it to find any meaning in life Only in Thy Light can we see the light This is the last line in the book I would have appreciated it if the author started with this so I wouldn t have wasted my time reading it.
