This book will be useful to educators wishing to include ethnographic research methods in their teaching especially within the context of undergraduate liberal arts than it will be for ethnographic researchers themselves The purpose of the book is really explicated in the short introduction while the majority of the text is the resulting student ethnographic studies that culminated from an experimental interdisciplinary undergraduate course based on a learning community model While some of the essays are quite interesting and all of them are skilled and provide good examples of approaches forms and structures of the ethnographic essay there are few readers who will find a sustained interest in the text as a whole at least from a content perspective What makes the volume valuable is its persuasion in encouraging educators to provide meaningful research opportunities to students before they become over saturated in academicism and disciplinary constraints that narrow their views on what constitutes good social and cultural research English
