Books like sky high I would recommend this book in a heart beat Great story And as a side note this book will most likely stay in my kindle and be read again as with all those books I have that I really really REALLY enjoyed Count this book among those Helge Mahrt I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review I like to read books that take a creative stance on how the future of the earth might play out Lots of books television shows and movies have tackled this topic but every once in a while I stumble on a unique concept that makes me fall in love with the genre all over again Sky High is a fast paced and straight to the point work that left my heart racing despite the questions circling around my head It has a Brave New World feeling to it but the plot is one that seems terrifyingly plausible In addition while the plot is nowhere near similar the slang used throughout the work reminded me slightly of A Clockwork Orange however Sky High is much easier to read than the slang dialect in A Clockwork Orange My main complaint is that I have so many questions after finishing reading it I m not sure if the author is planning a sequel or not but I desperately hope so Overall the plot is very well paced character development is excellent and I was hooked within the first couple of chapters unable to stop reading until I was finished Highly recommended and I look forward to this author s future work Helge Mahrt I received a free copy of Sky High in exchange for an honest review Earth came to near destruction after a meteor hit Old Europe While billions died others still remained and forged their way into a new world Within the very beginning we are thrown into the futuristic and action packed life of Mark Deloite Mahrt does an excellent job of world building Mark s journey takes him throughout Skyreach a city of endless spires and beyond When I first started reading Sky High I could tell that the writing was better than some other new authors that I had encountered It was smoother and the dialogue was natural between the characters I was instantly sucked into this Government gone wrong tale The action was so frequent and intense it really kept you wanting to turn the page We soon meet Nurse Yasmine Who becomes a large supporting character to Mark s journey While I found their first few encounters awkward that soon turned into natural dialogue Once Nurse Yasmine stays in the picture we really start to get the story going Leaf is a resistance group to the Natural Selection and Agent Orange is the opposite evil I really thought I knew where this story was going That a battle between Leaf and Agent Orange would become the center Without giving to much away I was dead wrong There is a significant twist toward the middle end that I think really elevated this story The energy really picked up and I was eager to keep reading Many small elements mentioned in the beginning start to tie in and really bring Mark s character and several other characters to their full potential The only qualms I had were the names of some of the characters For a futuristic book I felt that Mark was rather simple Commander Lawful also just didn t seem to fit either Aside from that small thing I believe Mahrt is on to something great and into young readers hands it can really take off I hope there is a second because this story is definitely not over Helge Mahrt Helge Mahrt s Sky High opens in a future where the Earth has been completely covered by cities Only the very peaks of the highest towers the Spires offer a view of the sky Because there is nowhere else to go the government enforces genetic selection neutering those with genetic defects but fostering those who show signs of developing some extra sensory perception Mark Deloite is a nobody living with his mother so far down in the city he s next to the crime ridden Bottoms but the government is willing to do whatever it takes to get him and his mother under their control A mysterious delivery is Mark s only clue to follow and it may well be the start of a dangerous journey. Book sky high Sky High told from the viewpoint of the teenaged Mark Deloite offers a compelling mix of action intrigue and ingrained distrust of authority Helge Mahrt has developed a highly believable civilisation complete with its own slang as a backdrop to Mark s adventures and the close focus on Mark allows the reader to experience the setbacks and the action with a wonderful sense of immediacy The storyline is full of twists and turns some of which Mark only manages to survive by luck and some coincidental contacts in the right places Overall I found this story had a lot to offer across a range of genres from YA to sci fi to dystopia Definitely worth reading Helge Mahrt I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest reviewI enjoyed this book The premise is very interesting and the world building is very well done I enjoyed the characters and I was impressed with how difficult it was to predict the twists and turns of the plot The action is frequent and interesting There were some points where the dialogue was awkward and confusing but for the most part it flowed pretty well Overall I enjoyed this story and I m looking forward to any sequels Helge Mahrt
