6 7 This is a lovely pairing of a romance We get two best friends Austin and Vinnie who are not good romantic partners for each other They each find love that helps them grow and become their richer selves I enjoyed Austin and Sean romance a great deal I do wish that we had been in Sean s head He was a great character I loved how he went after his crush on Austin This is a wonderful coming of age story for Austin where he learns to love and be loved Sexy too with lots of fun moments. Between rock and hard place annotations Love Me Like A Rock Bend or Break 6 This standalone romance focuses on Austin a secondary character in the previous Bend or Break series books and a member of the rowing team He s got a friends with benefits relationship with Vincent going on but it s getting pretty stale as while Austin has had stronger feelings for Vincent he seems to have been waiting forever for Vincent to return those feelings While in limbo on that front he meets Sean a model in one of his art classes Sean is the opposite of any guy Austin s ever been attracted to before the kind of guy who thinks a weekend roughing it away from the city is heavenly They ve got very different backgrounds with Austin having grown up in a wealthy but cold family unlike Sean s poorer affectionate one Will Austin give a relationship with Sean a chance to flourish or keep holding out for Vincent to consider him as a than just a friend I really enjoyed this story If you re worried about cheating or a three way triangle you don t need to be as from the start of the story Austin and Vincent are already in limbo with their friendship and sometime sexual relationship While Austin s had stronger feelings for Vincent he s been waiting forever for Vincent to return them and is finally realizing that maybe it s never going to happen It s in this mode that he meets Sean posing nude for an art class and experiences a first for him being turned on by the model how embarrassing But when Sean indicates that he returns that attraction they share some smoking hot sex Austin is withholding himself though not willing to commit fully to a relationship unlike Sean who is all in from the start I loved that Sean was comfortable expressing his feelings for Austin and made it clear that he was interested in something than just a fling And I liked that he forces Austin out of his comfort zone bringing him on his outdoor camping trips and sharing his love of nature this makes for some very funny scenes by the way They are definitely opposites but both have wonderful qualities to bring to the table While Austin sometimes comes across as having an entitlement chip on his shoulder Sean is quick to bring him back to earth As expected the scenes with the rowing team and the camaraderie of the guys make for lots of laughs even amidst the emotional drama of Austin having to decide whether he will give up waiting for Vincent for the man who wants him in the here and now 4. Between a rock and a hard place definition Hard Candy Bend or Break 7 On the heels of book 6 of the Bend or Break series all of which can be read as standalones in which Austin finally found someone willing to commit to him 100% Vincent finds himself in his own kind of limbo He d always pictured himself eventually ending up with Austin though he never made an effort to change the status quo But that ship has sailed and while he and Austin are still good friends they ve been friends too long to lose that even though it s not the same closeness that they used to have he s got no one on the horizon with whom he d consider having a relationship and certainly not dance major Bryan the kind of effeminate vocal gay man who is everything Vincent is definitely NOT looking for in a relationship So he had a failed one night stand hookup with him when he was drunk clearly he hadn t been in his right mind to begin with Only when he sees Bryan again he s struck by the same attraction he had for him the first time and this time with no drink in sight Proposing a little fling with Bryan on the side sounds good but Bryan s got his pride and he s not going to take kindly to a secret affair Will Vincent man up and admit that he wants than a few nights in the sack or will his ingrained conditioning to keep his homosexuality on the down low cause him to lose out on a man who wants I loved this story for its characters contrasts Bryan is the stereotypical gay man flamboyant great dancer outspoken He s not afraid of being gay of telling people he s gay of acting gay It s resulted in some challenges for him bullying from different avenues but that just makes him determined to be out and proud Vincent is the complete opposite he s a quiet conservative man from a family that views his condition as acceptable only as long as it s not made public For Vincent to openly date Bryan flies in the face of everything he s done up to then and everything that is expected from him from both his family and his friends Not that his rowing team doesn t know that he s gay because most of them are too but he s the one that camouflages himself well with his straight friends So the first hurdle for him is acknowledging that he has feelings for Bryan and accepting that if he wants a real relationship with him and not just some backroom antics he s going to have to accept Bryan for who he is flamboyant dance queen There is a lot of emotion in this story as Bryan will only take being hidden for so long and Vincent knows that he s making decisions that are going to affect his future happiness They have definite chemistry and their love scenes are super sexy The story plays out so well that I kept wanting to turn the pages faster and faster even as I wanted to slow down and savor Vincent s gradual acceptance and understanding of his and Bryan s needs and feelings It was a wonderful heartwarming romance about breaking down stereotypes while building a relationship 4. Between a rock and a hard place guitar chords 25 stars but they are even better together Rounding down only because I would have preferred a whole lot of these two couples Between a Rock and a Hard Place Bend or Break 6 7 I freaking love this series Aside from stories that are bound to suck me in and warnings that amuse I never really know what to expect from Amy Jo Cousins or the books that make up the Bend or Break series Ms Cousins excels in writing the unexpected real life romances about decidedly imperfect men and women that s a shout out to dear Steph who are struggling to find themselves and their place in a world that s not always kind Between a Rock and a Hard Place comprises book six Love Me Like a Rock and book seven Hard Candy in the series I knew these novellas would be about Rafi s room and crew mates Austin and Vinnie who d had a rocky best friends with benefits thing happening through Level Hands but beyond that I knew nothing I went in mostly blind gleaning a little info from the blurbs and found myself immediately sucked it shock horror not and utterly enthralled These men are not perfect pod people Austin is short Vinnie s a grumpy asshole most of the time Bryan is very over the top and Sean is apparently a little hairy But you know what I loved ALL OF THAT These men are not perfect but they are perfectly human These stories feel like real life because Ms Cousins doesn t shy away from the messy entanglements that come with new relationships awkward sex encounters and insecurities and low self esteem Both of these stories one that focuses on Austin and Sean and one that focuses on Vincent and Bryan take us through the stresses that a pair of former best friends with benefits but still best friends experience as they navigate their way through major changes Mistakes are made Communication is poor The sex is great but not central like a natural progression of these very raw and authentic relationships But what IS central is the connection that they feel to one another Good or bad toxic or helpful these men made my brow furrow and my heart flutter as I walked with them through this new kind of scary thing They had to learn to let go of what they d longed for or expected and embrace the future and that s not always easy It came with questions problems missteps and some unwelcome revelations about who they are and how they act And I couldn t get enough of it Once again Ms Cousins has given me a book two quick and easy to read but not EASY novellas that drew me in completely She gave me a glimpse of what fictional real life is like and made these men likeable and understandable in their actions even when they were wrong or acted like jerks I didn t want to put it down even when I was annoyed or frustrated But then I guess I should have expected that Beth 5 stars Between a Rock and a Hard Place Bend or Break 6 7 I d say 5 stars for Austin and Sean and probably 3 3. Between a rock and a hard place saying 5 stars for Vinnie and Bryan I love this whole series and what Ms Cousins with each story is different from the previous yet real and full of feels in its own way This is a joint review of the two novellas Love Me Like a Rock and Hard Candy included in this volume These are the stories of Austin and Vinnie who are roommates and teammates to Denny and Raffi from Level Hands We saw just glimpses of both of them in this book but I got the idea that they will end up as a couple eventually Now since I stalk Amy Jo Cousins on all social media a while back I came upon her sharing an excerpt of her WIP which clearly showed that Vinnie and Austin will get their stories told but they will end up with different partners To say I was surprised would be an understatement but I was also excited to see who she would pair them with. Between a rock and a hard place fogo island In two words I absolutely loved their romance In detail I found it very emotional and intense Being in Austin s head was such a pleasure seeing his journey from getting over Vinnie passing through the stage admitting that things with Vinnie are not working for him which is hard when this is the only thing you know about love relationships As usually Amy Jo Cousins is a master of presenting the angst and emotional turmoil of young people finding out who they are and what they want from life love It takes a hard and painful look at oneself and one s relationship experience to admit that you are not happy with what you have and want . Between a rock and a hard place book pdf And it was Sean opposite to Vinnie and in many respects to Austin I ll just say camping camping here who helped him realize things about himself I liked how their relationship developed smoothly and naturally There was not forced change no need to be different just the gradual realization that what they had between them made them both happy It may not have been what either of them expected initially or in Austin s case not something he was actively searching for but it was just what they needed. Between a rock and a hard place guitar chords On to Vinnie s story now I admit initially I was interested in Vinnie than Austin he appeared an enigma not too much into sex super focused and organised a bit of a bore yet a loyal friend and teammate. Between a rock and a hard place save my exams I enjoyed discovering about him but ultimately ended loving Austin s romance I shouldn t be comparing them because they are so radically different though in the end they achieved the same goal made Austin and Vinnie happy and satisfied with their lives something that never happened when they were together. Between a rock and a hard place definition Vinnie appeared cold and kind of disinterested only initiating intimacy with Austin after he had finished his important tasks and he had had a few drinks for courage But he was different with Bryan we saw his vulnerability his insecurity and I found this really touching Bryan was an unlikely match for Vinnie out and proud flamboyant someone who could never pass for straight and who didn t even want to He had his own demons and fears to deal with but he was so good for Vinnie. Between a rock and a hard place analysis pdf Despite the initial impressions they turned out to be compatible than anyone would have thought sexually emotionally They also challenged each other and this was good for them a way to find their place very much like Austin Vinnie learned what he actually liked and wanted in life love and got the courage to state it openly and go for it. Between rock and hard place annotations At times I felt Bryan pushed him too much too far making Vinnie act of character and out of his comfort zone It could be seen as necessary for him to better understand himself and become confident comfortable with himself but it found it too much This is just a minor quibble in a rich story which I very much enjoyed it Fans of the Bend or Break series wouldn t want to miss these two excellent additions to the series And if you haven t read any of Amy Jo Cousins books before what are you waiting for Between a Rock and a Hard Place Bend or Break 6 7
