Omnibus containing The Dreaming JewelsTo Marry MedusaVenus Plus X SF Gateway omnibusTheodore SturgeonI read all three books and loved The Dreaming Jewels most of all amazing but for now I just want to leave a short review of Venus Plus X which for me was a reread I originally read this round 15 years ago as part of the Outworlders book group and loved it Reading it now my feelings have changed I don t dislike it but knowing key plot points ahead of time allowed me to pick up much easily all the social commentary and instances where Sturgeon is really getting up on a soapbox There s wonderfully imaginative writing in here including the cool technology of the Ledom but there s also a sense that it s all very much a carefully staged elaborate intellectual set up to a big reveal Still though I have to share this bit of the postscript in which Sturgeon defends the subject matter of the book and also about how people makes assumptions about authors morals You homo saps are funny people I just read some figures where in a large group of my fellow citizens were asked if they thought all men were equal especially when it s outside certain parameters Hence this disclaimer friend keep your troubles to yourself I wear no silken sporran It was my aim in writing Venus Plus A to a to write a decent book b about sex It is impossible to attempt such a thing without touching up on religion which is impossible to do without touching rather heavily upon some of your toes If this hurts I am sorry about the pain My own toes stand family upon two planks in the Bills of Rights and if you have a book which refutes me I promise that I shall read it with full attention and that I will not burn it Theodore Sturgeon
