Their struggle and what not with so much thrown in it makes up for a very fast read and a story well told. Tiger in your room I will not be shocked if this becomes another Slumdog Millionaire in future and it may start that debate of showing India yet again in poor light but I guess thats how it still is so point debating it other way round It did keep me thinking but then its a work of fiction isn t it so we can give that much freedom to the story teller although its not fully convincing as at times it indeed felt that everything they were doing was such a cake walk for them but then they do face their own struggle and guess thats what the Tiger In You is all about They may not come face to face with the Tiger they went there to see but would they be able to wake up the Tiger in Them is the big questions I for one would definitely look forward to his other upcoming works in the near future as this is too good if you compare it with other trashy novels churned out by so many other Indian writers in the name of Thrillers that don t even deserve a review or recommendation This definitely is a thumbs up from me Paperback Great Christmas Read I recall having read Life of Pi A journey with a Tiger on the High Seas I recall fear curling up and gripping me as I read the book I recall holding onto my seat as I saw the movie It was an exciting journey Shiraz goes beyond He places the reader in an India where most of us will never travel His narrative grips like an Octopus And I m sure.

One of the best books on a Journey of self realisation and bonding of five friends who go deep into the Sundarbans forest and discover the Tiger in them through the experience which becomes a catharsis resulting in the paradigm shift of their previous mind set Paperback Shiraz Mukherjee s Tiger in you is sure to steal a place in the best sellers rack soon The simple lucid language devoid of any superficial euphemism is sure to steal the hearts of all age The story is fast paced and well strewn with intelligent and a frequent dash of humor and wit The author emanates profuse energy throughout This book can be incorporated in English curriculum long readings in schools Paperback This sounded like a fantastic book to read and it is on one level Shiraz takes us on a very interesting and enchanting journey into the Sunderbans though the eyes of 5 Mumbai college friends The characters and the events who they are and what they encounter are well developed with the interesting twist of looking for and trying to find realize the Tiger in each one of us I highly recommend it The other fantastic popular book on the Sunderbans of course is the well written book by Amitav Ghosh The Hungry Tide Ghosh is a better writer than Mukherjee and had much better editors and proof readers I got irritated at some points for eg on pages 220 221 the amount of money collected for setting up an insurance fund for honey bee collectors totaled Rs 375 on p 220 but turned int to suddenly roughly Rs 800 What How can that be Maybe p 220 was a mistake and meant Rs 753 Not good eg for plot after the attack one night one attacked is killed and left on the ground but next day the police and people have no clue and cannot figure out who were their attackers hey why doesn t the police or anyone identify who the body is and then who are the persons friends family associates Stupid eg use of some words or phrases p 323 He Lobo bhai soon got tired and went to a corner to grab a drink of water when his wife ABC boudi encountered him encountered him what How about embraced him or smiled at him or greeted him or eg repetitive poor and unimaginative writing p 295 How long had he waited for this day I have waited for this day. Tiger in your dream Its a story of five college friends from Mumbai on a week long vacation to the Sunderbans in search of the Royal Bengal Tiger Do they get to see the Tiger face to face The famous Man Eater even he has his own story to tell too How it all turns out for them makes up for the rest of the story told in a chilling manner by the debut ant writer How they get involved with the locals their plight the tough life out there in the jungle half way in the book you will be compelled to book a ticket for a travel to the Sunderbans. Tiger in your tank But before you begin I strongly recommend to see a video on the lives of the honey collectors of Sundarbans It will help the reader to understand the travelogue of the 5 friends who embark on a joyous holiday only to be besieged by train of events The events are not only adrenalin rushers but are scary for a city dweller. Book tiger in your backyard I would not like to give out the details of the events as they would spoil a reader s journey but would put my hands together to applaud at the author s attempt of taking us with him in the interior hinterland of India Subtly nudging the fortunate like us realize the worth and power of a Single Rupee in India s impoverished region the value of a rice grain for hungry bellies. Book tiger in your backyard The author brings to the fore the growing human and animal conflict the reasons behind the poor s compulsion to enter the jungles And by the time the journey is finished I honestly have a feeling that each drop of honey that I spread for my breakfast table is not sweet it is the drop of blood of a honey collector Yes it shocks me as I never realized that so many of my country men lose their lives as they enter the forest to collect honey These people like the honey collectors the woodcutters and the fishermen are forced to enter the forest for a livelihood It is sad India is still unable to provide these indigenous people an alternate and safe lively hood It seems the only savior that these men folk have is the blessing of Bon Bibi the Hindu Goddess with Muslim roots revered by everyone who enters the Sundarbans.
