Battle songs list My one gripe is the story ends abruptly because there will obviously be I need the next one Now Okay that isn t really a gripe Write Fast Please war SONG A copy of this book was received in exchange for a review Frequent readers of paranormal fiction will find a recognizable yet refreshing take on vampires in West s Hymnals Steeped in age and a never ending war with the magi this coven of vampires has interesting things to do than sparkle West deepens an age old conflict by exploring the inter coven politics and power struggles that lace through both the vampire and magi groups casting constant doubt on any assumption of who we re meant to root for in her engagingly crafted world The line between good and bad is blurred and called into question for both sides as Luca and Drew each push back against tradition and an aging ruling generation The action is kept at a breathless pace that pulls you through the story hungry for answers that West often dangles just out of reach While Luca and Drew seem to be set as foils war SONG leans heavily on Luca s PoV as he unexpectedly crosses paths with the mysterious woman Drew and the magi coven are searching for in hopes of taking down the vampires It may be because of this current weighting which may shift in future hymnals as we learn about Drew the magi and their history and purposes that while there is grey than black and white I found it easier to sympathize with Luca and his reasoning than Drew s I finished Hymnal 3 with a better grasp on the vampire coven s history and goals than that of the magi and a whole new heap of questions though these make me eager to follow the story as it unfolds rather than frustrated by the current lack of information. War instrumental song West does a wonderful job of describing the world and powers magic available to her characters without burying readers in exposition The evocative action scenes concretely place you in the middle of it all which may make a rather intense reading experience for some especially any sensitive to themes of abuse Characters are well drawn and her charts make it much easier to keep track of the large cast.
