The Watching Windows By Ruth McCarthy Sears

The Watching Windows By Ruth McCarthy Sears Paperback The Watching Windows Marly had come to towering Regent Manor, as private nurse to the elegant Mrs. Regent, with hopes of finding the home she did not have. But from the start she was besieged by troubles. First, she found it necessary to enter the Manor by scaling its iron gates, and was greeted at the door by a disapproving housekeeper who treated Marly as a trespasser. Then, there was Annette, the fawn like child who appeared in Marlys room one night, trembling with fear and hunger and whose identity was kept a dark secret. Even Marlys responsibilities seemed strange not those of a highly trained nurse, but rather of a cultural companion to Mrs. Regent. Why had Marlys handsome boyfriend, Charles Christian, warned her not to accept the position? and why was attractive, tawny eyed Michael Davidson so anxious she remain? Though plagued with doubts about both her job and her feelings, Marly was determined to follow through for better or worse.

The Watching windowskafka The book instead delivers a collection of flat characters who don t have any common sense whatsoever Marly is indeed a nurse and she has traveled from Kansas to San Francisco on her way to what sounds like a promising and perhaps adventurous private duty nursing assignment She will be working with a former concert pianist who now suffers from aftereffects of a riding injury While in San Francisco Marly stays with an old high school acquaintance and meets up with another acquaintance it s unclear why so many people from Kansas came to San Francisco but whatever When Marly arrives at the estate she discovers a very pleasant employer in Mrs Regent and a staff of moderately surly retainers Oh and there s a young girl just flitting around the estate and even though it s the late 60s early 70s no one seems overly bothered by the fact she s not in school In fact there doesn t appear to be either a doctor or medical orders but private duty nurse Marly just rolls with that too. Watching the english pdf And you know what else is missing Romance There s clearly a hint of love triangle involving Marly the acquaintance from Kansas she found in San Francisco and Michael Davidson son of a longtime friend of Mrs Regent who seems to run things It s unclear how he came to run things it just is However both men are offstage for almost the entire book There is pretty much no sexual tension and nothing all that romantic going on. The Watching windowsill And the mystery Well all kinds of hinky things are going on at the Regent House However the entire situation could have been resolved very quickly if someone had picked up a phone and called the police There s nothing particularly menacing or gothic about the goings on in this story So if you see this one in a used bookstore somewhere don t even bother Ruth McCarthy Sears Taking a job so far from home and knowing no one there can be scary But Marly does this and hopes it will work out The mysterious nature of the job once there keeps her on alert and always thinking of survival too Fate works its magic for everyone involved good or bad and the title truly fit the book Sometimes a job seems so much and well worth the courage to take it Ruth McCarthy Sears
