Flayed kindle paperwhite 5 stars but that s the trouble with any digital rating system there are always works that land on the border between two categories For me this wasn t quite a four star book but I enjoyed it than the previous two The amnesiac with power he or she can t control who gradually learns the truth about his identity is a story telling tactic that I enjoy and one I ve seen the author use well in other contexts Combined with a dark world ruled by seemingly unbeatable titans of corruption against which a tiny band of deeply flawed heroes struggle it makes for an enjoyable and interesting story that carries well across the three books in the series so far. Book flayed alive In this book the characters become a little deeper and richer the stakes of story a bit higher and the author pulls back the curtain a bit on the secrets of the world The final revelation about the main character confirms what I suspected since early in the series but I wonder what twists the author still has in store for us and that s a good thing I am interested to see the next full length novel and have already begun reading the novella Shadows of the Pyramid. Flayed fantasy The author s writing in this book is cleaner and even than the first two as he increases his mastery of the craft The characters still seem to swing somewhat erratically through extremes of emotion though which may be intended but detracts a bit from my enjoyment of the book hence why my rating is not higher And there are still a fair number of spelling and grammar errors though this book is much better than the previous two in that regard Despite these flaws I have high hopes for the next book in the series and will watch for it with interest Fantasy Horror Science Fiction
