Introduction Hello everyone I hope all is going well I would like to say firstly a thank you to Adrik Kemp for kindly providing a copy to this book This being my first time trying any of Kemp s works I will say that I enjoyed the gore violence filthy smut and darkness of vampires within the read That was VERY ENJOYABLE Yet it was also VERY confusing and lacked any central focus for most of the story to where I was left confused and unsatisfied As per usual please read the warning section above Some triggering themes that I didn t know about and disliked very much when I ran across them With that said here is a summary of this book down below Synopsis Set around the 1600 s 1700 s during Europe s Infamous Quest to Civilize the Peasants of the World Mack an Australian station boy who lives peacefully with his mother and father are in for quite the surprise when a band of charismatic yet darkly mysterious wealthy Italian foreigners come to their doorstep Unknowingly inviting evil into his home Mack not only receives a never ending change to his life but finds solace with a former servant slave to the head vampire of the consort Jason Just when all may seem alright evil strikes again to take away from both Mack and Jason Even though the pass of time what will become of them when evil wishes to deal the final blow to their story once and for all What Was Good Honestly the only parts that were enjoyable for me at least within the read were the filthy smut gore violence darkness cruelness of some of the vampires and the Australian atmosphere Again the smut was 100 100% no doubt I also liked the gore and brutal nature from the vampires within the read as well Speaking of which I liked how kemp had these vampires with a bat like form as well Added to their intimidating powerful and malicious side which added some good horror to the read as well Of course not to forget the Australian vibes were a major plus for me as well Otherwise That was it for me Improvement Critics I am going to keep this blunt and semi short since it was A LOT to unpack and critic about within the book The issues I had with the read were lacking MAJOR transitions that flow smoothly from POV s multiple as said in the warning section confusion on the story s plot overall no true connection between Jason and mack who were I assume to be the main couple years later into the 1990s having sex with other men separation and lack of trigger warnings for ablest slur use As I said I am keeping this somewhat short since it is A LOT I could say but most of the critics are explanatory on its own Plus I am just too tired to to type an anthology on it Concerning the lack of trigger warnings for ableist word used that really caused me to get upset since I ABHORE the R word and AVOID books that use it just to throw around Not only was the plot confusing with a lack of true romance and the POV change was abrupt but coupled with the other critics and then to have a character use an ablest slur out of nowhere Not okay at all A warning for said word would have been very much appreciated since again i hate when it is used in books Making sure to follow what I said about keeping this short I will say lastly that this book had great potential with its premise and some of the alluring elements such as smut gore violence and vampires Yet none of that truly matters if the story is lacking crucial devices to keep it sustainable and engaging for readers to like the characters and plot Then with the ablest slur again Beyond unacceptable in my opinion Conclusion Overall the gore brutality smut and vampire aspects were done very well Yet the story was VERY confusing and was all over the place with no true focus on important key elements In addition to the issues I listed above Did not help with making this book any better I did see a review on book 2 that said it was an improvement from this one So I strongly hope that is true since this one was in miss territory I would say the general takeaway for this book would be if you do choose to read this go in looking ONLY for the smut gore and vampire aspects Do NOT expect a romance or for most of the plot to make sense Also watch out for the ablest slur near the end If you go in with that mind frame you should at least like those parts of the book Again a thank you to Mr Kemp for a chance to try Horror blood of the land cast I wouldn t describe it as a love triangle either though one part of the main couple is intimate on page with another man I can t break it down without spoilers though The steam level was high and I enjoyed the way the vampires were presented their abilities and how they are made. The field of blood book Too much happens too much is not known like what did Mack do alone for a century when did Jason turn and why couldn t he fly and the many lovers in such a short book was just a bit much for me I kind of liked Bela and hated what happened to him and I kind of hated that Jason moved on before he got Mack back I just didn t feel any love except for what Bela had for Toran and Bela wasn t even the main love interest I guess I need to chalk this up to one that just wasn t meant for me ebook
