And the style of writing I unfortunately was disappointed with the ending Forgive me but I guess I was waiting for there to be drama and dread I suppose it s a side affect from reading so much Karin Slaughter and Chelsea Cain Many of the characters were too kind and I wasn t quite sure why there was so much emphasis on one particular character who was assisting police He had an unusual storyline which I would have liked to have seen somehow tie into the ending because the conclusion the author used just didn t fit with the flow of the story IMHO 271 This is a cracking cerebral thriller which pits the gut instinct school of thought against the contemporary school of psychological profiling There is a serial killer running amok in Hampstead and we are introduced to the police team led by the newly appointed Detective Superintendent Collison. Death in provence serena kent Profiler Dr Peter Collins is bought on board and he builds a picture of the killer The evidence suggests a specific suspect Great fictional detectives inspire the team in their hunt for the perpetrator There are plenty of twists and suspense in this well written and constructed story The author maintains a gripping and thrilling narrative and the novel is well plotted I gather that this is a series and I am looking forward to the next one Many thanks to Urbane.

All quite believable and all very well written. Death profile picture In the team s desperation to solve the crime or to bring something different to the story the police resort to advice on fictional crime collected in what I thought was a very worrying fashion. Death in provence book They follow the suggested theory and the story builds The reader waits for the usual breakthrough where the police discover the identity of the killer and the reader recalls all the little clues that they missed on the way I cannot divulge the story but I found the final two chapters very disappointing. A single lit street lamp shilloutted in the darkened night sky and mysterious drops of blood splattered on both covers Very intriguing and as it turns out a real ingenious idea of a story which really worked for me Death in Profile is a real cosy whodunnit mystery that harks back to the traditional era of detective fiction think Sherlock and Agatha Christie that is missing so much from todays books Guy has captured this atmosphere perfectly I might be showing my age here but it was like I could actually hear Ian Carmichael talking when Peter was going through his Lord Peter Wimsey stage Throughout the book I truly felt I was kept involved in the solving of the murders and you actually feel as if you re there helping with the clues Even though this book has an old school approach it still has the contemporary modern twists and turns and is very intelligent.

Compelling and quite quirky If you re looking for lots of violence and guts and gore from a crime novel then this isn t the book for you but once you ve finished reading it you will feel like you ve been wrapped in a warm duvet which you never want to leave I can t wait now to read Guy s second book in this series of the Hampstead Murders the recently released Miss Christie Regrets all published by the exciting Urbane Publications It s already had rave reviews and I expect it once again to be exactly my cup tea A warm 5 stars from a very happy reader 271

In Death in Profile Guy Fraser Sampson introduces us to the first in a new series of books the Hampstead Murders A serial killer is at large having just claimed their fifth victim in what looks to be a sexually motivated attack The Detective Chief Inspector in charge of the investigation Tom Allen is quietly shuffled off the case having failed to produce results Bright young Detective Superintendent Simon Collison is brought in to bring a fresh pair of eyes to the investigation We are introduced to other members of the team DC Priya Desai DC Karen Willis DI Bob Metcalfe At the suggestion of Karen profiler Dr Peter Collins is brought in to build up a picture of who might be responsible Through careful examination of the clues one clear suspect emerges ticking all the boxes suggested by the profile But can it be that simple What I found most interesting in this book were the two approaches to police work old school gut instinct working steadily through evidence and facts versus the modern approach looking at profiling the possible perpetrator The profiler Peter Collins was highly intelligent and a really fascinating character in himself I enjoyed reading about how he came to his conclusions The slight twist in the story where the team found inspiration from the great fictional detectives was very entertaining There were plenty red herrings to keep me guessing just who the criminal might be and as is usual for me I didn t guess whodunnit While the story of the hunt for the serial killer was fascinating I felt that this book was equally an introduction to the police team watching them begin to work as a unit and get to know and trust each other I certainly enjoyed reading about the team and am looking forward to getting to know about them in future novels A very enjoyable crime novel witty and astute My thanks to Matthew at Urbane Publications for the review copy via Netgalley 271 Thoroughly enjoyed this modern mystery written with a lovely golden age feel The story takes place in London it s a traditional whodunit with the detectives on the hunt for a serial murderder of 5 women That sounds dark gritty but it s not There are numerous references to early female mystery crime writers and fans of Dorothy L Sayers books will be in for a treat. Death in provence book Another series i will be following 271 Death in Profile is an excellent read and a British police crime thriller that s just a little bit different A team lead by Detective Chief Inspector Tom Allen is struggling to catch a serial rapist and murderer When a fifth female body is discovered it s decided that a change of leadership and a new set of eyes should put in place The first in the Hampstead Murders series and this book mixes modern day methods with good old fashioned police work It contains some odd scenes in the pages that caused me some puzzlement but overall they added to the books appeal and I found it absorbing with a late twist that made the ending an interesting surprise that I could not have guessed. Death profile picture Detective Superintendent Simon Collison a young Met Officer fast tracked for promotion is sent in to relieve DCI Tom Allen of leading the murder investigation much to Tom Allen s dismay The case has been running for a year and a half with few clues little progress and the press are restless as the body count has slowly risen to five It s proving a tough case to crack and DS Collison knows he will have his work cut out It s agreed a profiler should be used to help narrow down the suspects and that s when things get a little strange It s certainly a promising start to a series and the book had a good feel to reading it The reader gets to experience the frustrations of the police investigation which isn t without its flaws but hindsight is a wonderful thing There was some humour too especially for me when DS Collinson is being warned by his boss The Assistant Commissioner Crime who is pointing out the dangers of his weird behaviour and I m sat smiling and nodding in agreement I enjoyed Author Guy Fraser Sampson writing and his first story in the series and I look forward to what the next one will bring ARC received 271 This story really had a lot going for it I enjoyed the plot for the most part the character development the publishers for a copy of the book via netgalley 271 For the last 15 months DCI Tom Allen has been in charge in the investigation of serial rape murders When a fifth body has been found DCI Allen is replaced by DS Simon Collison to continue the investigation DCI Allen is told to take some leave in which he decides he will continue with his own investigation. Death in provence book You have totally old school writing and atmosphere think Christie and indeed Ms Sayers and you will probably get a sense of what this novel is like It is a bit like reading back in the golden age of crime writing to paraphrase Ruth Dugdall but with a superbly contemporary twist a modern day police force investigating a series of murders using a mix of current methods and due to a superbly constructed plot having to utilise a very old fashioned approach. Death profile picture The characters are beautifully drawn they feel like old souls in new bodies all of them are intriguing engaging and the author weaves some wonderfully quirky interactions into the narrative some of the set scenes so to speak are a joy to behold. Death in provence book Add to that a great mystery that twists and turns and misdirects you the entire time the centre of the story has an unconventional heart and soul that will totally absorb you It is a bizarre tale in a lot of ways but GOOD bizarre a little gem of difference within a genre of brilliant but similar stories and one that I would highly recommend 271 Guy Fraser Sampson is an experienced writer and it shows in this police procedure crime novel The story flows well and we are drawn along in their long running investigations to catch the vicious murderer In most respects he follows the tried and trusted storylines that we would expect in modern police fiction including the ambitious fast tracked officer versus the trusted old fashioned copper the office affair the press leaks and pressures from on high to get a quick result All as expected can he come up with enough imaginative crime solving plots Whilst there is much to admire in the free flowing writing style given the odd section in the middle and the disappointing end I cannot award this book any than three stars.
