March dates to remember There was a lot I liked about this book One of those items was the main character Hattie is a list maker like me She would write out and organize her thoughts throughout the book So in honor of Hattie and list makers everywhere here are my top five favorite takeaways from this historical cozy mystery. A march to rememberk book This was the first Hattie Davis Mystery I have read Sometimes coming into a pre existing series in the middle is tough There are so many characters with old storylines being brought up that you feel left out I didn t feel like I was late to the party at all with this series and I appreciated that. Historical fiction a march to remember book In my early married life the hubby and I lived in the greater Washington DC area I enjoyed the imagery of the city this book painted It brought back fond memories of days past and made me itch to start planning a family vacation to our National s Capital sometime in the future. A march to remember ebook pdf In every book I have read in this series I am always amazed how how proper the killers are when they are revealed They don t go running off or try and harm anyone else they accept their fate and are rounded up by the police Wouldn t that be nice if people acted this way today I did suspect who the killer was just because I couldn t see anyone else doing it but I didn t know the reason behind the situation. A march to remember book cover There is even a little romance in this series once Hattie met Walter a dashing doctor in a previous book I do enjoy seeing their romance continue and how different it is than times today I also like that while this may be the late 1800 s that Walter is very supportive of Hattie s career and does not expect her to sit at home and manage the house should they marry Very forward thinking for a man of those times especially considering we see how boorish other men are and how they treat their wives This book revolves around an actual historical event that involved Coxley s Army I really enjoy learning a bit history especially this event that isn t as well known as other events And the fact that they managed to arrest people for standing on the lawn of the White House What a crazy law that was on the books I also liked how the politicians were portrayed not a whole lot different than politicians today other than they might be a little refined It is also perfect timing with the election and everything we see in the news. The march book review Excellent book and with the ending will be curious to see how future books play out can t give you too many details otherwise I would giveaway the ending A March to Remember Hattie Davish Mystery 5 I have loved all of the Hattie Davish mysteries and am sorry that this will be the last in the series I have followed Hattie from the beginning and feel like I know her Working as secretary for Sir Arthur Windom Greene in the late 1800s Hattie s curiosity gets her involved in solving yet another murder this time in the nation s capital Jacob Coxey and his men are marching from Ohio to speak on the plight of the unemployed Recognized as the first march on Washington Coxey plans to speak on the Capitol grounds but already Senate and Congress members are opposing it Hattie then witnesses a carriage crash into a pond in which a woman of the streets is killed She finds some buttons from the driver s shirt as a clue and sets off to find out who he is and why he left the woman to die As Hattie delves into the highest levels of government Coxey is stopped from speaking and a member of his group is found murdered Enter Hattie again and the twists and turns of this story become amazing Ms Loan Wilsey has done her historical research that s for sure and I learned so much from this book On a happy note Dr Grice finally proposes to Hattie and she accepts but she needs to get Sir Arthur s approval You ll have to read the book to see if that happens This was a thoroughly enjoyable read about an event that I knew nothing about but Hattie s sleuthing skills are again top notch I will surely miss Hattie Davish and her adventures and can t wait to see what Ms Loan Wilsey comes up with next A March to Remember Hattie Davish Mystery 5 A March to Remember by Anna Loan Wilsey is the fifth book in Hattie Davish Mystery series Hattie Davish is in Washington D. Book a march to remember book review C with her boss Sir Arthur Windom Greene a historian and writer They are staying with Senator Merriweather Lewis Smith and his wife Mildred Hattie s beau Dr Walter Grice is coming to town to see Hattie and also visit with his sister Sarah wife of a congressman Coxey s Army led by General Jacob Coxey is heading into town on May Day for a march Thousands of unemployed and hungry men are camping outside Washington waiting for May Day Hattie is out on an early morning walk when she sees a carriage going too fast Inside the carriage is a fallen bawdy woman Hattie had seen the previous day The driver and woman end up in the lake The man gets out and takes off Hattie dives into the lake to try and rescue the poor woman Two men come and assist her Unfortunately the woman later identified as Annie Wilcox does not make it Hattie knows that the police will not put much effort into looking for her killer because Annie is not a lady Then during the march one of the men who assisted Hattie Jasper Neely is killed and Hattie is injured by the police officer s freely swinging night sticks Someone wanted to quiet Jasper and used the march as a cover Hattie wants answers and starts digging Hattie also has a personal matter that she needs to address with Sir Arthur and cannot seem to get him alone Romance may take Hattie away from Sir Arthur Join Hattie on her latest adventure in A March to Remember. Pdf a march to remember analysis A March to Remember is an enjoyable novel Anna Loan Wilsey does a wonderful job at capturing the time period and locale Anna Loan Wilsey includes many details on the sights of Washington D. Historical fiction a march to remember book C what it looked like at that time The author is a descriptive writer that brings the scenes to life you can just see them in your mind This is the type of book that needs your complete attention when you read it or you will miss something important While this is part of a series A March to Remember can be read alone The author updates the reader on the events in the earlier books I did though think the mystery was very easy to solve I picked out the killer based on his character description maybe I have read too many mysteries I then read the book to see if I was correct The reader gets some good pointed clues that will help solve the crimes While I thought that the mystery was easy to solve 5 I just finished reading A March To Remember by Anna Loan Wilsey and gave it 5 stars I was not surprised that I would love every minute of this book This entire series has been a fun experience It is well written and the characters are extremely likable Lots of historical research has gone into the telling of Hattie Davish s story Lots of twists and turns until the reveal of the murderer near the end And the ending well let s just say I loved it It brought tears to my eyes Happy tears that is I highly recommend this book not to mention the entire series I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review A March to Remember Hattie Davish Mystery 5 Reviewed at The Power of Words March to Remember is a cozy mystery of quality entertaining informative and impressive Mystery history romance are blended together in a narrative that easily flows across the page This book is 5 of the Hattie Davish historical series and I regret to only have discovered Hattie as the series apparently concludes A March to Remember can stand alone but I d like to read the previous mysteries. A march to remember book cover It is always a privilege to spend time with Hattie Davish and I will miss her adventures I am sad to learn that this is the final book in the series Even though as readers we will no longer share her life I have no doubt that Hattie Walter and Sir Arthur will get into plenty of trouble Highly recommended I received and ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review This did not influence my opinions expressed here A March to Remember Hattie Davish Mystery 5 A March to Remember is a mystery to remember Traveling typewriter Hattie Davish goes to the nation s capital in 1894 at the time of the first major protest march Even as her romance with her doctor beau Walter heats up or does it Hattie becomes involved in politics helping ladies of the night and murder of course Characters and costumes are richly drawn and the history comes alive on the pages but not at the expense of the story Loan Wilsey s best mystery yet I couldn t put it down and you won t want to either A March to Remember Hattie Davish Mystery 5 A March to Remember is the 5th Hattie Davish historical mystery by Anna Loan Wilsey and it is wonderfully predictable Predictable may sound a lot like boring but the Hattie Davish mysteries are anything but that No predictable here refers to the fascinating history and characters each of these mysteries contains Anna Loan Wilsey does her research and it shows What is especially appealing to me is the predictability of those amazing back stories of history an education of the lesser publicized events in a story that captivates Hattie Davish the traveling secretary in this series herself is a study into women s roles that didn t necessarily follow the norm in the 1890s Hattie has opportunity to use her intelligence and ingenuity like few women did in that era In A March to Remember Hattie travels to Washington D. Book a march to remember 2024 C in March April of 1894 with Sir Arthur Windom Greene her principal employer and mentor so that Sir Arthur can do research on another of his books Well it is usually Hattie doing the research or copying documents from the files of historical papers so that her employer can peruse the information at his leisure Hattie is at her best ferreting out this information The timing of their visit coincides with the arrival of Coxley s Army a large group of unemployed men from around the country who have marched from Ohio and other points to represent the grievances of thousands of the unemployed who face starvation for themselves and their families after the bleak economy of 1893 The plan is to speak at the Capitol as a protest to the deplorable conditions and in support of a new roads bill that could employ a major part of those currently destitute and desperate Of course Hattie becomes involved She and Sir Arthur are staying with Senator Merriweather Lewis Smith and his wife Mildred and the senator is against the roads bill Hattie s involvement with the Coxley camp begins when she witnesses a carriage accident in which a young woman who is employed at a house of prostitution drowns after being thrown into a pond Her gentleman friend who was with her in the carriage flees the scene without trying to rescue the young woman and before he can be identified Two of Coxley s men come upon the scene and one attempts to rescue the young woman to no avail Thus Hattie s first encounter with two of the men seeking a voice in the nation s capital for their cause With Hattie s detective skilled mind she uncovers missing buttons from the vest of the man who fled and the mystery solving begins. Book a march to remember 2023 Dr Walter Grice who is in love with Hattie and she him also arrives in Washington to visit his sister another senator s wife and to spend time with Hattie There is much for Hattie to see and do with and without Walter as she meets President Cleveland s wife goes to a senate meeting and explores the darker side of the city s offerings Curiosity is a large part of Hattie s character and it is little surprise that she had actually seen the accident victim a day before at a house near Union Station where she was to meet Walter Politics is never simple and always at the forefront of what goes on in Washington City Hattie discovers connections between Coxley s men senators prostitutes and the society of the senators wives The day of the May Day march by Coxley s Army brings large media coverage L Frank Baum covered it and it figures into his book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz something I discovered in further reading about the event as it is the first march on Washington but it also brings fierce resistance from the government and law enforcement The attempt by Coxley to speak on the Capitol grounds is thwarted by police who arrest Coxley for trespassing on the grass and who also wield an unrestrained show of force There is another unexplained death a murder of one of Coxley s men when the smoke clears and another puzzling piece for Hattie to try to solve Who is behind all the mysterious deaths and events Signs point to those in the high levels of government and to those from the Coxley camp It is a quagmire of confusion that only our resourceful Hattie will be able to discern Anna Loan Wisley has such talent as to presenting actual historical events surrounded by mystery and story that envelop the reader in a learning experience without realizing how very much you do learn Her descriptions of the Washington D. A march to remember historical fiction stories C in 1894 are exceptional even the fascinating ride on the elevator of the Washington Monument The White House is also part of the setting that is so thrilling to picture at that point in time The characters are so well drawn out that you become invested in the minor as well as the major players The author s words give life to the people and the place so that the reader easily become ensconced into the world at hand Learning that this book might be the last in the Hattie Davish series is quite a blow Anna Loan Wilsey has such a gift for writing historical mystery that is seems a mistake must have been made My hope is that events occur to make the continuation of this series possible Of course I look forward to any future books from Anna.
