The think and grow rich action packview com 2016 Napoleon Hill The beginning of the book baits us in the beginning Hill speaks of a secret that would unlock the path to riches and this would lead the reader to a wild goose chase because he doesn t reveal it even by the end of the book The early part of the book remains salient to this day to be rich there must be burning desire and faith coupled with definite purpose and persistence That s really basically it However the later parts of the book show their obsolescence Hill talks about sex transmutation which is using the power of sex a la Freud to empower positive emotions but Freud has largely been debunked by modern psychology Most of those experiments Hill refers to as clairvoyance have been debunked due to its non replicability so the exposition that follows is worthless Hill also fails to understand that not everyone is out to be rich and his suggestions of forcing people to say yes to make money off them such as in insurance for instance reeks of backward business practices that are no longer popular In terms of foundational concepts however the book remains relevant but I still prefer Robert Ringer s Looking Out for No 1 because he explicitly states that there s no such thing as a free lunch and to be rich entails sacrifices most people don t want to undergo And that s fine Napoleon Hill The classic precurser to The Secret and other teachings about prosperity as being part of consciousness and thoughts rather than merely luck or efforts This does read a bit outdated but if you are interested and don t mind that it is worth its contribution to the field I would add that people seem put off by something focusing on riches and that how you define prosperity and abundance is an important part of it And I believe Mr Hill errors in his focus on super wealth and in the way he makes absolute statements about being rich many times implying that the richer people are positive people and that poorer people are negative I don t believe that to be true and have witnessed many examples of this certainly not being true Hill also is not concerned about the dark side of riches and how this has not made a better world where profits come before people and the poor suffer and the rich do not care very much Napoleon Hill
