Lost Lake housejet Surprised because of the creativity displayed by the author in choosing the time period to set her retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses fairy tale in a town in 1920s America when Prohibition was in full swing and gangsters were making good money selling forbidden alcoholic beverages in secret places posing as legitimate dancing clubs Now that s one of the most creative settings I ve ever found not just for this specific fairy tale but for retellings in general Maybe because her two previous retellings were Westerns I was expecting this to follow the mould and be a Western as well so this one caught me off guard and was a very welcome change I was lamenting this wasn t a standard length novel merely because of that setting.
