The Prisoner of Monte Verde By M.L. Roberts

The Prisoner of Monte Verde By M.L. Roberts Kindle Edition The Prisoner of Monte Verde Monte Verde is a peaceful village where crime does not exist. There is no jail and no executioner, but when one man kills another, the people find they may need both. Victorio is the village elder, giving counsel whenever needed. His fairness has never been doubted and he does not believe in revenge. Yet now he has a fierce opponent in Ofelia the dead mans aunt who demands the death penalty. If Victorio cannot guide the villagers away from vengeance, then it may fall to him to take the guilty mans life, something he swore he would never do. The “Prisoner of Monte Verde” describes an act of violence and the turmoil left in its wake. It is about one man leading his people to do what is best: for the prisoner, the victim’s family and the village of Monte Verde.

Kindle the prisoner of monte verde review

The Prisoner of Monte VerdeThis is a gut wrenching view of what the death penalty is at a very personal level It does so without truly taking a position on the death penalty or whether it is right or wrong or moral or whatever Both the killer and the killed are the town s dregs or close to it not the town s finest citizens But if it really is to be done who and how is the question If not how is he locked up forever who feeds houses him most of all who pays for it Some characters say yes he must pay Others say I don t want to house him forever I don t want to have to feed him from my table It s all done on a very personal level the characters never argue about capital punishment per se only about who does what and how Both chilling and thoughtful especially in this time of doubt about the validity of the death penalty with DNA evidence feeling dozens of innocent men on death row. The prisoner of monte verdefiore Reminds me somewhat of the classic short story The Lottery in that it s surprise to me was the whole thing seemed perfectly logical and made complete sense I m not sure what that means about us as humans that we can adapt to any circumstances or we are essentially inhumane Both seem appropriate and the former least we deceive ourselves is only slightly better than the latter 27 The premise of this book is simple yet somehow greatly complex When a man is murdered in a peaceful village to what lengths will the townspeople go to serve justice The author did a great job creating the atmosphere of a small isolated village in which everyone know everyone else s business Definitely worth a few minutes of your time 27 Superbly writtenWhat a remarkable literary gem This was an amazing read for me The characters are so well written that the reader can easily get into the mind set of each character and become part of the story I found myself relating to the thoughts emotions and predicaments each character faced Though a short read it really pulls the reader in and commands the reader to question his her own conscience and inner motives in such a situation as set out in the story Overall it was superbly written thoroughly enjoyed reading 27
