Surrounded by strange new people and even stranger enemies James must take control of his destiny if he is to rescue the mysterious Gypsy Antanasia with whom a budding romance is beginning. So with the help of a few colorful characters and some not so colorful James prepares for a showdown with the other worldly Cerise, also known as the changing red. I do understand the differences between British English including grammar and American but I believe British readers will have as much difficulty with the writing here as I did A lot of the problems are typos I could decode most of those but not all The writer switches verb tense unpredictability Ex He feared she will be angry with him And many sentences have extra words or have the needed words but in a weird order In addition to the technical errors which mar nearly every page the storyline itself confused me James grandmother for example changes personality to the extent that I am left unsure whether to consider her good or bad We meet a large group of supernatural characters so large that I lose track of who is with whom And as with the grandmother I am left confused as to who is good and who is not. About halfway through the book the author adds snippets of stories from some other World and not until nearly the end could I grasp the connection between that World and this I don t mind solving mysteries but the way this one is presented just annoys me. W Cotter I really enjoyed this book Cannot wait to read book 2 That boy really had it hard His mother s death and the condition really got me good His earth grandmother is very good James behaved immaturely J. I like James the main character for most of the book Toward the end he changes in ways I don t understand I still mostly like him but : I say that to explain why I read this book all the way through despite its many problems, I wanted to like the book By the end however I wanted to scream at the author Find an EDITOR J
