I was delighted by this hard boiled romantic mystery and by the married but not together getting back together plot There are all these twists of character that caught me by surprise like being inside the character as she tries to find herself in fun house mirrors The females Courtney Ruby and Lily are complex Even Courtney s mom who gets a terrific bit part in back story near the end surprised me with what she said to her young daughter That back story by the way is gold That was where Courtney crystallized for me and I think for herself. The turning points are realistic and organic For example when Edward the hero turns away from Courtney I can understand The author doesn t pull any punches Courtney is not a perfect person and I didn t approve of everything she did but her actions were human and she paid like we all do She grew on me in a major way because she was so honest with herself and because she took responsibility for every single thing in her life in a brilliant contrast to the hero In the end I was surprised by the emotional punch of the book After the fast paced edgy read I found myself watery eyed by the ending I loved the last chapter the most and was happy with the conclusion for these two. Some of these lines are so good The subconscious is a tricky thing That s love you dumb ass the entire messy wad of life that had suddenly spilled into his neat clean life eyeballed him that way cops had like they could see inside every lie even the ones you told yourself. I hope the author goes into mystery in a big way She has the voice for it I ll be following where ever she goes Love and Death in Blue Lake Blue Lake 3 Eddie couldn t bring himself to sign the papers that would turn his years long separation from Courtney into a full blown divorce He was certain their love could be re kindled. Courtney knew that Xander the father of her unborn child wasn t The One Eddie was But even though she was a behavioral therapist now it was too late to do anything about it Just because you re still married to my mom fourteen year old Ruby shouted at Eddie doesn t make you my dad Xander blew his stack when he found out that Mom had never after all these years divorced Eddie But Xander was harmless Ruby thought Wasn t he Everyone told Lily that her mom s death had been a tragic accident But Lily knew her cousin had killed Mom and that now he was coming for her There had never been a killing in the small town of Blue Lake This author of this short novel weaves all this and into a romance that rises head and shoulders above many others in this genre Complicated relationships past hurts and revenge are transformed by Harrison into a surprisingly tender story of hope and new beginnings At its core Love and Death in Blue Lake is a heart warming story of family courage and love Love and Death in Blue Lake Blue Lake 3
