I m neither a doctor nor a medical school student but I have always been interested in having some understanding of medicine I have always been one to react to any possible medical symptoms I might have and then go to Webmd or a similar source to try to figure it out on my own Although I don t recommend that anyone do this kind of self diagnosis my approach as always been to learn as much as I can about medicine so that I can at least be informed The Underground Doctor was the perfect book for someone like me who has an interest in understanding medicine yet does not want to invest time and money in a massive textbook or education And I can imagine that for actual medical students this would be a great supplement for the textbook This book would also be a great idea for individuals who think they might be interested in entering the medical field but are not certain It s so easy to read this book and grasp the concepts because the characters like Ian and Merlin were so compelling and made the story gripping from beginning until end I m generally not a big fiction reader and I will usually only read it when it is intently designed to teach non fiction subjects This book does that and does it well I loved this book and was able to acquire A LOT of medical knowledge as a result The Underground Doctor uses fiction very effectively to make a lot of otherwise dull material come alive If you are thinking about a career in medicine emergency medical services or military medical service then this would be a great book to start with 225
