The dauntless detective also encounters killer chimps and slashing panthers, protects Little Boy Beard from a deadly revenge plot, investigates a shady surgeon named Keip Choppin, and finds himself immersed in a forty year old cold case suddenly turned very hot. The strip enters its fourth decade as Chester Gould also presents a poignant story that rivals the Model narrative, when Tracy has to protect Junior from disturbing news about an important figure from the boys past. Included are all strips from February 20, 1961 through August 26, 1962. O Plenty is entirely missing and at the very end we get a whiff of the moon madness that comes in Volume 21 1631406051 This collection of stories is a weak entry in the series 1631406051 Brush has to be one the surreal villains Dick Tracy ever faced That s him on the cover In general this is one of the lesser volumes of the series Gould s truly great stories were pretty much in the past by the early 60 s The last strip in this book foreshadows the upcoming Moon strips in which Gould experimented with outright science fiction a storyline that Tracy aficionados tend to loathe I ve never read them myself Prior to this current series from IDW Tracy reprints largely stuck to storylines from the 40 s and early 50 s or jumped forward to the Max Collins years Substandard Tracy that I ve never seen before is still a treat Dick Tracy villains are known for their spectacular demises as much as their bizarre appearances Brush seems about to break that cycle with a relatively peaceful capture but manages at the last minute to pull off a spectacularly gruesome exit The followup showing the fate of his ill gotten gains is a somewhat heavy handed lesson from Gould on the subject of greed Possibly the best storyline in this volume features a woman from Junior s past The book finishes out with an informative essay about the Dick Tracy cartoons from UPA 1631406051 A ok collection of early Sixties Dick Tracy adventures the villains are only so so with hench animals such as two black panthers and two killer chimps One winter Gould just loved doing snow storms storyline ties up has fate of a character from Juniors past and closes a 40 years old case with the best villian death in in the whole collection. Entertaining but i am looking forward to upcoming volumes that give us Diet Smith s Space Coupe a trip to the Moon and the classic appearance of the Moon Maid 1631406051
