Cock Robin's Garden By David Stephen Paperback 0001232878 9780001232877 Natural History Cock Robins Garden 1911 was a Scottish naturalist author and journalist In 1947 he became nature writer with the Daily Record then nine years later moved to The Scotsman where worked for a number of years He was the first director of Palacerigg Country Park near Cumbernauld Lanarkshire. This is a great series of nature books for children I learnt about many other English garden birds as well as the robin Nature red in tooth and claw but no gory pictures There is a surprisingly bird friendly cat resident in the garden but other less friendly animals take young and eggs The pictures are very good Paperback I ve had this book since I was a very small child For most of that time it s been sat in a loft bound box of childhood items and forgotten about I recently uncovered it and read it for the first time in about 35 years What struck me most about this charming children s tale is how informative it is to people of all ages about what goes on in your garden I ve done a little research on the author and he was a nature specialist who certainly knew his stuff Lots of what happens in the book whether that s feeding habits squirrel raids or cat incursions has all happened in my garden over the last couple of days alone I love my garden and I like to think that it was this book that inspired my future enjoyment of it all those years ago Paperback
