The events that take place are deeply disturbing but with them came the terrifying reality that real people suffer from these severe mental conditions and chances are it s someone you know. My predominant thought throughout the book was how there needs to be help and resources available to deal with the unfortunate souls that suffer with psychological disorders not only to help them but to potentially save others. From a writing perspective I was amazed at the amount of learning and research that must have gone into writing this story A lot of medical terminology is used as well as detailed information on medication and drugs. Though I m sure this story will leave me with nightmares I regret nothing Thriller Crime Paranormal I received Kali On A Rampage in exchange for an honest review but somehow it got lost on my Kindle When I was transitioning over to my tablet I stumbled onto it and dove right in because it s an interesting premise As you read it you begin to see that these characters are connected They re like a line of dominoes sent tumbling forward with such force all you can do is watch and hope for the best Cervo has clearly done a great deal of research on mental illness and has crafted these characters to be as realistic as possible None of them have any redeeming qualities which adds a gritty realism to the book It s a dark violent read that you don t just read it slowly filters into your mind The point here is if you re looking for a light fun book this isn t it I love books like these not because they re violent but it offers up characters that broken and often misunderstood I like dark fiction and Rampage is pretty dark but it s a book that I couldn t put down What s interesting here is that at its core it s a book about greed and how it can make you do things that you normally wouldn t do Cervo is a writer that paces his story well he slowly unravels the tension until its shocking conclusion There s a great deal of violence here but it s a product of who these characters are it s essentially all they know It s one bad decision after another that sends these characters spiraling out of control It s that slow unraveling that holds it all together It s not a book to read if you want a happy ending or a world where everything makes sense Most of my favorite books are pieces of darker fiction with flawed characters but there s a great story that you become addicted to Kali On A Rampage is that kind of book It s not for those who hate violence or want something meaningful to read You won t find that here Cervo has created something that fans of horror and dark fiction will flock too You want to read a well written novel that explored the dark side of human nature you won t find a better novel than Kali On A Rampage Thriller Crime Paranormal I can t recommend this book enough I do however recommend not reading it while eating Thriller Crime Paranormal Hardcore grindhouse exploitation pulp with contemporary cultural and political resonance Thriller Crime Paranormal Kali on a Rampage by R. D Cervo is without a shadow of a doubt the most bold and most powerful book you will ever read this year and any year It has the guts to delve into subjects that many other authors filmmakers and even people in general don t have the stomach and courage to explore From mental health to rape to heroine addiction to murder to suicide to our frantic modern culture this book has it all to make you feel uncomfortable with the really vivid detail it goes into with the inner workings of a disturbed mind Shocked at the subject matter that is not for the easily offended or faint of heart To disturbed at the graphic and unsettling violence that doesn t hold back it goes straight for the jugular and doesn t let go when someone faces a gristly demise. The book also is so down to earth with its matter of factness it presents the world and the people as realistic as possible It isn t a fantasy full of good looking people in a perfect world Society is pretty much screwed which it is a world going out of control filled with death violence hate obesity victimizing and suffering it s a struggle to survive and everyone is out to screw another over to get what they want it s dog eat dog and if you re not strong you re a goner and if you don t fit the appearance that the shallow nature of society deems acceptable you are treated as an outcast and outsider this book hits true to home with all of this And the characters are portrayed in a down to earth manner they are normal people flawed facing their own problems haunted by the trauma of their inner demons They are all fascinating characters with their own unique characteristics No two is alike just like real life Some are sympathetic and you feel for them and the hardships they are facing and when they face an unjust end you feel bad for them they didn t deserve it Others are complete monsters repulsive in nature and appearance sick and twisted and horrible people in general You feel glad when they finally face the consequences for their terrible actions Karma doesn t let them off easily at all There are also some characters who start out as bastards but when they face their imminent end they have a redemption and change of heart learning the errors of their ways it gives them depth and growth and makes you feel pity for them that they learned too late and now have to pay the price for their earlier arrogance. The structure of the book is really great it gives the story a great flow and pace especially when the characters and their lives start interweaving with the other characters and their lives creating a devastating collision it feels like you re reading the book equivalent to Quentin Tarantino s Pulp Fiction which no doubt R. D Cervo must be a fan of because the violence and dialogue at times certainly feels like it s invoking the spirit of QT and his film even with the references to McDonald s pop culture and character monologues full of rich and colourful dialogue Even the tone that shifts from shocking one minute to darkly funny the next creating a mix of being stunned at what you just saw to then laughing out loud at the subtle humour it throws at you here and there to lighten the heavy mood. The book is a real page turner I was invested in the deep characters and the engrossing plot I was compelled to discover what fate awaited each character and how the whole story would be resolved at the end hoping certain likable characters would survive at the end but nothing is ever certain for anyone they all could be dead or come through at any given minute it keeps you guessing and you may think you know what s going to happen next but the story surprises you by going in a different direction it s never predictable you won t be ahead of the story it keeps you tagging behind full of intrigue from the beginning to the ending This book really does hook you and reels you in and when you finally reach the conclusion it s a truly satisfying experience. Kali on a Rampage is certainly a book I highly recommend reading It has everything It s a horror psychological thriller crime noir dark comedy sharp social satire If you can handle the disturbing graphic and unforgiving nature of the book then you will be treated to one hell of a story that doesn t hold back from anything It s certainly what I would call the book of the year it deserves way attention it s way interesting than a lot of the mainstream books released today that play it safe This book has the guts to show everything and everyone as it is there are no pretenses no one and nothing is spared it is examining and dissecting the human condition and how messed up it s become It s like a Sam Peckinpah film in that regard The book asks questions about us and the world we re living in that need to be confronted and answered It s time we reflected on the madness greed and pain we are creating for ourselves and inflicting on each other and start to change it for the better before we are all slaughtered. This is a must read Once you read it it will be with you forever Thriller Crime Paranormal

The book didn t have the level of horror I expected or that was anticipated from the back cover Any time there was a horror scene it felt thrown in Towards the end the killings actually started to feel like a comedic relief Oh crap we killed another person Let s run Even the character provided with a lot of description didn t feel fully developed The author just bounced from one character to the next I couldn t bring myself to keep reading any Thriller Crime Paranormal.
