As a reader I enjoyed this novel It is very readable and moves along nicely I found myself reading large chunks of it and always looking forward to what happens next As a writer I am even impressed with it for the structure of the book is a bit complex with the chapters divided and shared among several characters showing the developments from several points of view And yet as I said above it is easy to read and follow so I didn t get lost at any point. Happy accident meme I also liked how fairly the characters are treated Even the two characters I liked the least were presented in a balanced way showing their actions from their points of view rather than just as two dimensional stereotypical jerks As an author who tries to put wit and humor into my own stories I also appreciate the humor in this book sometimes subtle and other times bordering on slapstick Serious feelings and issues are dissected throughout the novel so the humor provides a welcome balance. Happy accidents painting The structure of the book is not the only way this novel is complex The story mostly follows three women friends as they negotiate the challenges life throws at them and the challenges they throw at each other They hold back information and even tell a few lies to each other but again it is done seamlessly and with enough care that I never got confused by their separate versions of events and how they interact with each other This novel shows how complicated friendships can become I am trying not to give anything away as there are a few juicy plot twists The only aspect of any of the characters that didn t grab and hold me involves Clara s job as a radio psychic but it doesn t detract from the story I have had characters in my books who do or believe in things that I as the author do not share That is what fiction is all about.
