Probably one of the better novel adaptations A pity Big Finish is no longer doing these as they re really starting to get good 1781787050 People die and memories are erased The Doctor and Benny investigate 1781787050 Wonderful adaption of the original novel I ve loved these characters for years since I read the books back in the 90s and Big Finish is doing a great job bringing them to life It makes me sad they ve said no novel adaptations but hoping they do they original adventures with this TARDIS team 1781787050 I really enjoyed this one A very nice adventure with Benny and the Doctor with an interesting and exciting story some fun scenes and very good acting Easily the best of the novel adaptations I listened to so far 1781787050 3. 5 1781787050 John Dorney is a British writer and actor best known for stage roles including the National Theatre the BBC Radio 4 sitcom My First Planet and his scripts for the Big Finish Doctor Who range His script Solitaire was rated the most popular Doctor Who Companion Chronicle of 2010 on the Timescales website and was the runner up in Unreality Sci fi net s poll for Story of the Year 2010 11. As well as Doctor Who he has written for Big Finish s Sapphire and Steel series and on radio co wrote three series of BBC Radio 4 s Recorded for Training Purposes He won the BBC Show Me the Funny Sketch Factor competition was a finalist in the BBC Laughing Stock competition and has performed in Mark Watson s Edinburgh Comedy Award winning long shows as The Balladeer On stage he has written plays for the Royal Court Theatre Hampstead and Soho Theatres. On 30th Century Earth the Doctor and Bernice Summerfield encounter the Adjudicator Roz Forrester and her squire Chris Cwej Based on the original 1995 New Adventures novel by Andy Lane Doctor Who Original SinI finished this the other day and forgot to put it marked as finished Whoops 1781787050 The novel adaptations are a very hit and miss range unfortunately I feel in a way that s what contributed to these releases not being so popular commercially due to the inconsistent quality of the stories and of course when adapting one s work you re putting yourself in very uncomfortable shoes if you get my drift But since I read Original Sin I decided to give the audio a go as well The Doctor and Bernice having learned of a terrifying event soon to happen on thirtieth century Earth go to investigate Roz Forrester grieving over the loss of an old colleague is teamed up with Chris Cwej at first she finds him annoying and irresponsible but as they find themselves in the middle of a conspiracy that affects the human empire on a grand scale they start to find an understanding in one another Riots are occurring on Earth people are turning to murderous violence out of the blue and in the midst of it all is an old enemy who has been waiting for The Doctor to return for such a long time. John Dorney has done a really good job adapting this story admittedly it doesn t feel nearly as grandiose as it does with the novel which is a shame but understandable considering the audio medium and the run time given to work with The cast were brilliant in this and it s nice to have Roz and Chris introduction on audio considering they were also in Damaged Goods which introduced them to Big Finish. Overall A really solid adaptation that whilst not as good as the novel still remains very faithful to the original source material 9 10 1781787050 Very well done but it all goes by so quickly that I might ve preferred it as a six parter I might seek out the original novel to get the full story since this seems to be a somewhat condensed version of events But the cast is good and the sound design is spectacular 1781787050 The original book not the audio adaption shown as for some reason goodreads could not find the book 1781787050 Again a fun story and a fast adaptation of existing material but as with a lot of the New Adventures adaptations there s just something that doesn t quite click for me It s a shame because Original Sin sees the introduction of Roz Forrester and Chris Cwej as companions alongside Benny Summerfield and this is the team that accompanies The Doctor in one of my very favourite books The Iain M Banks riffing Also People A second listen might give me to like I ll let you know 1781787050
