Elizabeth: Mistress of Pemberley By Cornelis de Jong

Elizabeth: Mistress of Pemberley By Cornelis de Jong Kindle Edition Elizabeth: Mistress of Pemberley This novel is not conventional Jane Austen Fan Fiction; it is aimed at a discerning readership familiar with Regency s and history. It does not indulge in the usual Darcy Elizabeth “love life” depicted in romance literature. Darcy is somewhere in the background: it is Elizabeth’s life and character we focus on. In this novel Elizabeth goes through a period of considerable hardships and uncertainty; and at times her relationship with Darcy is at a low ebb. She experiences moments of happiness and also of heartache. Nonetheless, this narrative has a happy ending for both of them, albeit unconventional. Elizabeth Bennet is the second daughter of a gentleman of modest means. Her father is master of a small estate in the south of England. Her mother is shallow and indolent; she has taught her daughters little of value to prepare them for marriage. Elizabeth, however, is bright: she loves reading; and as her father’s favourite was encouraged to learn. She plays the pianoforte, but not very well. In most other essentials, such as drawing and painting, she is deficient. Elizabeth can dance, as any of her siblings were keen to learn so as to attend the local assemblies, but none of them has had a coming out. Mr Bennet hates London and has kept his daughters from polite society in Town. And yet, at the age of twenty, she marries Fitzwilliam Darcy, an extremely rich man who is also well connected in society. Overnight, she is elevated to the position of Mistress on Mr Darcy’s vast estates in Derbyshire. As Mrs Darcy, she wants to do well. Her optimism is dampened somewhat by the magnitude of the task and, in no small way, by the servants who seem to resist change, having been left to their own devices for over ten years since her predecessor had died. Elizabeth has much to learn but events continually overtake her. Towards the end of the second year of her marriage, she is still childless. There is as yet no heir. The Peace has been declared and for the first time in her life England is not at war. But circumstances conspire to make Elizabeth’s life miserable. During the next twelvemonth, as the war returns, Elizabeth’s struggles intensify. Why does her sister in law enjoy precedence over her; and which dark secrets lie behind the insidious legacy left by Lady Anne, her predecessor? Marriage has deprived her of a confidant: her best friend is far away; and her dear sister Jane, like her, is marooned on a distant estate. Letters are almost her only means of keeping in touch with them. But, Elizabeth makes new friends; she gradually gains the trust of her staff, and finally establishes herself as the Mistress of Pemberley.

And finally establishes herself as the Mistress of Pemberley Elizabeth Mistress of PemberleyThis is a very different story from others in the JAFF genre It is not a love story and there is actually very little told of the relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy In this tale he spends much of his time either in London where the Corn Laws are being debated and war resumes on the Continent or with Georgiana as she is courted and wed from a location not Pemberley The few times that this couple is together we read of them basically spending time in different parts of the house or estate Once we are told that the couple comes together for the business of creating an heir There are times he kisses her on the hand or hands her into a carriage but they seem to be rather cool when in each other s company He has reverted to being Lord and Master and does little to help her adjust to her role He demands strict obedience on at least one occasion. Elizabeth books perth The role with Georgiana is not as warm and loving as in canon for much of this story also She is part of the story as she befriends Catherine Bennet and takes lessons with her At one point.

Anne and the others from the Fitzwilliam side of Darcy s family. Elizabeth leica An example of Elizabeth s determination to make her stamp as Mistress is dramatically told in one little episode relating the annoyance of a certain ceramic clock s ticking and the reversal of her order to move it to another location If you can bear with the story for about the first 40% you may find that it gains your attention as you begin to wonder who are these people and where is their place with regards to each other and to their role in the running of the estate of Pemberley At the end the author does give us information about this book s premise as well as a parallel book told from a different POV My Brother and I 423 Before I begin I must admit to loving Pride and Prejudice Darcy and Elizabeth hold a special place in my heart and will continue to do so. Elizabethkingia species Center stage with Elizabeth is a man whose name is Edward Benton He has had a relationship with Alfred a cousin to Aunt Gardiner and with Georgiana in that he attended a local school with both He then was sponsored at university until his sponsor withdrew support just short of graduation and he is sent back to Derbyshire to apprentice as a farrier at Pemberley But his talents his efficiency his intelligence help assign him to other roles and draw the attention of Elizabeth as well as others These two develop a very intimate relationship At times and as others have said it almost seems too intimate and is even a question for some But Elizabeth does on several occasions tell the story of the tempestuous dance she and Darcy did before their marriage And she states that she loves him as much now as she did then The war with Napoleon has an influence in this story as several characters are military men and as Darcy opens Pemberley to accommodate for the care of wounded officers after Napoleon escapes Elba and returns to France We learn about Lydia is a roundabout manner Mr Bennet family visit and of course we read of Lady Catherine to assure myself that both Darcy and Elizabethhaving seen the error of their waysare courageous enough to give the other a second chancewhich thankfully leads to a better understanding of their personality traits and a happy ending for all Thus when I began this book I did so with the expectation that a tale would be spun concerning both Elizabeth s and Darcy s trials and errors in confronting the many adaptions she would of necessity have to make to be fully accepted as Mrs Darcy and the rightful mistress of Pemberley And so began the story of a lady named Elizabethwho happened to be married to Mr Darcyboth living in a mansion called Pemberley It s a historicalsomewhat bleak but utterly compelling tale that tells of their early years of marriage Yesit s a page turner and is quite interesting as it contains a lot of detail and is intriguing in parts. Elizabeth olsen In it however Mr Darcy spends copious amounts of time away from his wifewithout telling her of his whereabouts or any details of his various activities Shein turn accepts this as normal and never questions it When residing in the same house for short periods of time they not only sleep in different rooms but on different floors of their home. Elizabeth line timetable Left largely to her own devices she develops an infatuation for a young man on staff and I wasn t alone in wondering how that storyline would develop While this may be a historically accurate story of how the landed gentry lived in Regency timesI must admit that I found it quite sad that the main character had such an empty and lonely partnership in my humble opinion with her husband I thought she seemed lost and adrift almost as if she d been deserted by her husband who seemed to enjoy spending time at his club than he did with his new wife This tale is narrated and contains very little direct contact or conversation between Darcy and Elizabeth It is not a story warmly infused with chatterconversation or cosy scenes involving the married couple discussing how to win over society or the staff in Pemberley In fact I must admit to axing this set of characters from those that reside in my heart as Austen s Darcy and Elizabeth I find it hard to correlate the relationship of the husband and wife in this story with the warm friendly intimate relationship shared by two like minded and lovable individuals in P P. Elizabeth leica This is simply my opinionit may not be shared by others and that is perfectly acceptable to me as no two people read the same book So if you re looking for a historically accurate story set in Regency times about a couple named Elizabeth and Darcy then this is the book for you If however you re looking for a tale that encompasses romanceshared decision making centred around an openly loving couple then perhaps this may not be your first choice 423 Elizabeth Mistress of People sWritten from Elizabeth s POV this story is a little better than the first book My Brother and I What made this book exciting was Elizabeth s detective work On the fence about this book too Finding keys in her bureau day books and letters in the mechanical escritoire in the Blue Room Lady Anne s dresser with the Fitzwilliam jewelry the hidden room of the library with all the antiquities hidden and the moving bookshelf that allowed Elizabeth to get to At least the readers found out why Darcy didn t have family jewelry to give to Elizabeth Before the death of Lady Anne Fitzwilliam Darcy she had Austrian carpenters really artisans for what Herr Roentgen accomplished come in and redo the library and had special furniture pieces made also Finding keys in her bureau day books and letters in the escritoire in the Blue Room Lady Anne s dresser with the Fitzwilliam jewelry the Anti Library with the hidden room where all the antiquities from the Roman Catholic worshippers are locked way and the moving bookshelf that allowed Elizabeth to get to Lady Anne s old apartments above hers Again Elizabeth and Edward Benton spent too much time together without another being the room Other than Elizabeth s detective work with her chamber maid and Miss Lamarck the story went on the same lines as the other book just a different POV What amazes me is the people around Pemberley outside of the Great House are loving Elizabeth but Darcy always seems to have his underwear in a twist Sometimes to use Elizabeth s words he becomes a cur If this was Jane Austen s Darcy her book wouldn t have become a classic 423 Not a Pride and Prejudice What IfOther than the names and locations provided this is a stretch to be in a Pride and Prejudice what if scenario genre Confusing at times as thoughts and conversations of the characters seemed to be cut off mid flow The title is a misnomer and overall the book was a disappointment I slugged through it hoping it would improve it didn t 423
