Star Wars: Jedi Quest 1 By Ryder Windham

If young Anakin Skywalker is to become a Jedi he must follow the teachings of his Master Obi Wan Kenobi He must also find a way to overcome his fears including the memory of the vicious Darth Maul the man who killed his friend Qui Gon Jinn Star Wars Jedi Quest 1I didn t like how the story was adapted I didn t like the art Go and read Path To Truth instead it s a quick read and much satisfying Obi Wan and Anakin Krayn Science Fiction Fantasy I generally think slavery is one of the stronger themes a prequel story can tackle and this is a or less competent take on it Anakin is thrust back into slavery is abused by a fallen Jedi slaver he knows to be Obi Wan s friend and it makes Obi Wan once again confront the limitations of his powers as a Jedi and a mentor That s all great material but the story doesn t really go for any of it Having read the Slaves of the Republic arc recently and having been still unsatisfied with that to an extent too it s quite apparent that this series just doesn t dig as deep as it should Anakin is in slavery but we never really feel the blow that is to him We just know he s going to be rescued as he does and we never feel like he s even scared or perturbed by it Having Siri Tachi playing a slaver her could be a really phenomenal to drive the knife in for Anakin forcing him to confront the Jedi s general ability to look the other way on slavery and foreshadow some of his own darkness in a meaningful way than the stupid force cave dream that opens his arc here And then resolving all that with Siri revealing her mission redeeming herself and the Order in Anakin s eyes etc could have been a great ending Instead it s merely superficial and familiar and fine nothing as egregiously incompetent as the other volumes I ve read lately but far from special The art is here fine in a vacuum not above average for Star Wars but not offensive Except if you ve seen the films it s pretty clear that the artist does not know what these actors are supposed to look like I make fun of lots of comics for failing to capture likenesses but this is a whole new level of face blindness You d never guess who Anakin and Obi Wan are meant to be if they didn t use their names and Mace is only recognizable through context Science Fiction Fantasy Off to a good start 3 out of 5 star rating. This flagged hot for me as a Maul comic which unfortunately I suspect will only be a single dream memory sequence within this Thankfully this is a pretty low buy in at only 4 episodes and not a 25 75 epic quest of a comic book journey Anakin is a teenager Obi wan is probably late 20 s or even possibly low 30 s There s space pirates and the main villain intrigues me as it is an alien from a race I am unfamiliar with within the Star Wars universe I just started re watching the new 2022 Obi Wan TV Show series for my 2nd viewing today actually so this pairs really well with that as Obi is at the top of my Light Side list pf interest for sure Great timing Science Fiction Fantasy Story 5 10 Compared to Jedi Quest it s kinda trashy, Anakin chiquito en sus primeros d as como jedi cuando todo iba bien es todo lo que necesito Science Fiction Fantasy
