It started out as another boring day at work Then a magical girl showed up like something straight out of an anime Except that I haven t seen an anime where the magical girl threatens to kill people She was throwing lightning bolts around and saying something about the reincarnation of Star Princess Astraia being in the building It turns out that was me So now I look like a scrawny teenage girl and I have magical star powers and a psychotic magical girl named Shadow Princess Umbra is making my life hell She blew up my parents house And the of Astraia s memories I uncover the I think that Umbra isn t even close to being the worse of it But I m going to keep fighting because giving up isn t an option Magical Fury is a dark magical girl RPG inspired by anime series like Madoka Magica Sailor Moon and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Your characters start out as normal girls who discover that they are reincarnated magical girls They awaken to their powers under fire and it will be up to you to decide where she goes with new her life from there The game uses a very simple variant of the Apocalypse World engine aimed at fast and flavorful play that you can jump into on short notice or play in a deliberate long term style Battles come down to a handful of rolls and throughout the emphasis is decidedly on the consequences of the course of action you choose The book also includes an appendix with 17 random tables to help you along with character creation and other things that pop up during play To play you will need some six sided dice character sheets and something to write with Magical FuryI tried this game for the first time today Read through the book a few times to get used to the rules It s quite different from Maid and Schoolgirl which I found surprising but as a massive Sailor Moon fan the premise of the game is my favourite out of the three Ran the game with two inexperienced roleplayers who picked it up really easily I think this would be fun with players and if there were randomised tables for characteristics and events like in Schoolgirl I m going to hack it to combine the gameplay of Schoolgirl and the plot of Magical Girls because I think that game would be interesting The moves are slightly confusing in that there isn t much variety so everyone kept repeating the same move in a battle for example This is a good little game though especially for beginners and very well written and explained Paperback For the past few days I have soloed my way through The Horror of Hallowpike House for 5E free pay what you want This adventure is nine pages the house has 15 rooms and it is for fifth level characters The game system I used to play it was Magical Fury dark magical girl RPG 35 pages Both items are available at DriveThruRPG These two items are for a Game Master and several players I used five characters and I used a solo engine I have been testing out On the first day the five young ladies picked up the quest and entered the house before it got dark For the first battle they tried to kill the zombie by using ranged attacks Well that did not work They all took a point of trauma damage and had to make a run for it In another room they encountered a mimic Miranda the Mirror Mage captured it in a hand mirror Later she was able to also capture a helmed horror and that same zombie with her other mirrors However her luck ran out when she was up against the flesh golem It broke her neck Angie the Elementalist went into a rage She transformed into one of her former selves a fire elemental She took down the flesh golem and the entire house The only two items they could salvage from the house was a wand and a special key There are so many questions Has the evil from the house been destroyed Did they complete the quest Where will this unique key take them The three other survivors Shadow Mage Ribbon Mage and Potion Mage Paperback While my group hasn t run this yet I m really hesitant to The overdrive system that guarantees you to succeed a role at the cost of getting literal cancer blindness or blowing of a limb along with how monsters being too functionally similar makes this a hard recommendation I don t think it s unplayable but it takes a GM to really work with this I ll be sure to update this if we run it Paperback
