Dog gone lies pdf read online Boy this book was poorly written It came across as a low budget TV show The characters and their dialog was wooden and there was essentially no significant description of the people and the environment Also there were a bunch of grammatical errors but I m not sure if grammatical errors in contemporary literature are a feature or a bug Anyway it was about the most boring slog I ve encountered in recent memory I ve read worse books recently but I m not sure I ve read any with such pathetic writing Perhaps my negative view is that I got off to a bad start when a rather glaring flaw showed up early on in the book That made it clear to me that the author who was too lazy to check on details of certain factual material had no respect for his readers The protagonist Ray has a snow white dog run up to him he thought it might be a Labrador mix or some kind of sheep dog Whatever he was sure it looked to be an expensive dog No way a Labrador mix would be expensive unless it had special qualities such as tracking or drug sniffing Then too Labrador mixes are almost certainly short haired while most sheep dogs are longer haired e. Dog lies on side g like Lassie Basically mutts aren t worth much except to the people who love them Eventually we learn that the dog was an Icelandic Sheep Dog Well Icelandic Sheep Dogs are most surely not snow white Nor do they have coats even vaguely like Labradors which as I already mentioned are essentially short haired Too bad the author was too lazy to do even rudimentary research A samoyed would have been a good choice They re snow white and they have smiling faces or at least the one down the street from me does Ray named the dog Happy because of his smiling face Well I ll stop The plot was simple minded the characterization minimal and as I said above the writing oppressively boring Suffice to say I ve read my first and most assuredly last book by this author Dog Gone Lies Pacheco u0026 Chino Mysteries 1 I loved this fun storyDog Gone Lies had me laughing out loud Although I must say6 there were serious matters at stake Sheriff Pacheco retires to a little known fishing village where he meets a drunk Indian fishing guide and a Happy overweight owner of a fishing shack He buys his bait from Happy Jack and takes fishing lessons from Tyee Until a lost dog he forms a private investigation firm with two new friends a Native American fishing expert and the owner of his favorite fishing equipment shop with a dubious past Here s what works The mystery plot line is a good one and kept my attention despite occasionally rolling my eyes The characters are interesting too Here s what didn t work the writing The plot despite a couple of suspenseful episodes plods along with several significant repetitions There were some definite implausibilities that undermined the credibility of the story especially with the female characters There was a dearth of description despite being set in an especially beautiful and interesting place in the American Southwest And following the resolution of the mystery in which the the bad guys are brought to justice we get a several chapter denouement that adds little to the story Dog Gone Lies Pacheco u0026 Chino Mysteries 1 As a former resident of NM some of the scenes and descriptions are on target for the vast array of landscapes The small town law enforcement was interesting with their schemes and how they were at the crux of all the crime in the area I enjoyed the sheriff and his NA sidekick. Dog gone liesn in The women characters I did not enjoy silly inane not believable for their actions and reactions There were many clinkers inaccurate in the plot that were not plausible or real for the time Like calling information most states no longer have this service as people get their info via internet with their mobiles The women checking into a hotel using fake names doesn t work as nearly every hotel motel require id s and a credit card this as insurance Most major hotels have security and cameras that would have shown what happened to the women Several of the characters were just weak sources that did not enhance the story or plot This book ends up on the cozy mystery genre shelf for a mild plot and the mysteries I was expecting a little pizzazz similar to Hillerman s work There were many rough edits with typos needs some work in that department Dog Gone Lies Pacheco u0026 Chino Mysteries 1 This is another good one guys It s about a retired sheriff who moves to a small lake community After about a month he realizes retirement is boring He opens a Private Investigating Firm with a couple of his new found friends And helps the FBI solve a murder Then you introduce man s best friend and you have my attention The only flaw I found in this book other than quite a bit of foul language is at times it was a little redundant I think sometimes as writers we just fill the page with words Trying to turn a story into an actual book.
