Gold, Glory and the Gospel By Louis B. Wright
A lively colorful account of the adventures of Spanish Portuguese and English explorers emphasizes their diverse and seemingly contradictory motives Gold Glory and the GospelA well written engaging popular history. Is this book an interesting perspective Absolutely Should it be a connonical text for those interested in the age of exploration Probably not Gold Glory and the Gospel Saw this at the Public Library during a XMas shopping expedition in Evanston Being by the much published former head of the Folger Shakespeare Library I had high expectations of some real insight into the mentalities of 15 17th century Europeans These were disappointed by what amounts to a dry retelling of the histories of some Renaissance explorers As a refresher for there was little new here it was fine about as interesting as a cramming guide Gold Glory and the Gospel
