Although Master Tung s Acupuncture has been in the public domain since his untimely passing in 1975 very little information is available publicly on how to use the system in a practical and systematic way in English In this book I hope to guide my fellow colleagues into the intricacies of applying Master Tung Acupuncture in the clinic Since I am also a practicing acupuncturist and deal with pain women s health and internal medicine problems quite frequently I am sharing my clinical experience in this book and the secret of creating the protocols that I use daily with modification I also attempt to explain why I choose a particular protocol and the modification to it In this book I introduce what I consider the Best of Master Tung s Acupuncture There are many books on Master Tung s Acupuncture which introduce all of the 740 Tung family points but often these books may be too much for the beginner and do not let the beginner grasp useful concepts or how to use Master Tung s Acupuncture immediately and effectively Most acupuncturists simply add the Tung points to their already memorized TCM Acupuncture point prescriptions and as a result make a mess out of their acupuncture They do not have a simple and elegant rationale for using the system. The best of master tung's acupuncture book review In my teaching of Master Tung s Acupuncture I always choose points that are painless easily accessible and have powerful immediate results The Best of Master Tung s Acupuncture A Clinical GuideI m a trained and licensed acupuncturist in TCM In school Master Tung s practice was not taught but over the years I ve taken continuing education classes on Master Tung s style including theory and practice I have other books on the subject that focus primarily on applications with a short introduction of the concepts of imaging an reflection which is very similar to scalp ear or Korean hand acupuncture Dr Chu s book does a much better job of introducing the Tung theory and principles with a focus on just a handful of the points but also provides examples on how standard TCM points could be applied instead One of the things that appeals to me is that in the book the point names are included in Chinese with a de emphasis on numbering Personally I ve studied Chinese in Beijing appreciate the language and don t like learning number based systems that gives little value to the use or meaning of the points Before reading this book I ve often found the greatest effectiveness of points slight off from the traditional TCM locations Dr Chu explains why Master Tung s points sometimes correspond directly or on the same channel and why the correspondence may be important The section on treating and guiding needles was most informative as Master Tung s style does not use local points I debate about giving this review 4 or 5 stars For the price 49 I think the book is is bit expensive For a few dollars the Applied Channel Theory in Chinese Medicine Wang Ju Yi s Lectures on Channel Therapeutics offers a better value While this book doesn t attempt to be comprehensive I think the total number of points are relatively few The diagrams are very basic At the end of the book the author is promoting his own acupuncture program which appears to be an alternative approach to TCM acupuncture only portion schooling I could buy into the concept a little better if it included comprehensive theory While I m convinced of the value of learning this style I don t know if I can yet judge it as a full alternative vs an adjunct I need to read study and apply the knowledge The quality of the insights gained by me made the book worth reading 232
