Extreme Gravity By MR Geoff Lovell
A teenage amateur astronomy student makes a chance discovery of an unusual deep space phenomena His tutor witnesses his find and urgently notifies NASA but his sighting is ignored Fifteen years later NASA s Near Earth Object program detects an immense cloud of unknown matter speeding towards Earth and panicked calculations reveal the possibility of close encounter within weeks Western governments impose a news blackout whilst scientists scramble to identify the composition of the cloud and its precise trajectory As the threat approaches every electrical circuit in the northern hemisphere fails immobilising transport systems and rendering communications between people in towns cities and countries impossible As civilisation descends into chaos two strangers meet at small Swiss airport brilliant young astrophysicist Eva Murren and businessman Red Gravely both desperate to board a last flight to London for different reasons Unable to get aboard they form an unlikely alliance drawing upon each other s skill and knowledge in a desperate attempt to travel across Europe by whatever means they can find As the couple begin their journey Earth s most powerful and mysterious force gravity increases and what should have been an easy two hour flight descends into a seemingly impossible journey Extreme GravityA very interesting novel moving from one disaster to another after an initial catastrophe There are chapters and sections related to the disasters themselves which are very well done and the government political storyline is readable but slightly strained However the travelogue related from a businessman s and passing scientist s view I found unbelievable Moreover the novel is marred by a number of mis spellings omitted prepositions and lack of punctuation Additionally I found it grossly over descriptive with nearly every noun having multiple adjectives which eventually became tedious and slowed the story down The occasionally breathless use of sentences in excess of 100 words and frequently over 60 words again slowed the plot down. Nevertheless the story has considerable merit in its concept and even with the criticisms it was readable right to the effective ending A good debut novel with reservations that could easily be corrected by a good human proof read not just a spell check 1519370628
