A Dash of Dragon (Lailu Loganberry #1) By Heidi Lang Kindle Edition Fantasy A Dash of Dragon (Lailu Loganberry #1) A thirteen year old chef has a lot to prove as she tries to run a five star restaurant, repay a greedy loan shark, and outsmart the Elven mafia in this entertaining novel that combines all the best ingredients—fantasy, humor, adventure, action, cute boys, and a feisty heroine! Lailu Loganberry is an expert at hunting dangerous beasts. And she’s even better at cooking them! For years Lailu has trained to be the best chef in the city. Her specialty? Monster cuisine. When her mentor agrees to open a new restaurant with Lailu as the head chef, she’s never been excited. But her celebration is cut short when she discovers that her mentor borrowed money from Mr. Boss, a vicious loan shark. If they can’t pay him back, Lailu will not only lose her restaurant—she’ll have to cook for Mr. Boss for the rest of her life. As Lailu scrambles to raise the money in time, she becomes trapped in a deadly conflict between the king’s cold blooded assassin, the terrifying elf mafia, and Mr. Boss’ ruthless crew. Worst of all, her only hope in outsmarting Mr. Boss lies with the one person she hates—Greg, the most annoying boy in school and her rival in the restaurant business. But like Lailu always says, if you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. And she’s determined to succeed, no matter the cost!

Epub a dash of dragons book

A Dash of Dragon is the best book ever if it were a food it would be like caramel brownies or ice cream cake or honey or ice cream or even a burrito that s how good it is It s a book about cooking Mythical creatures as the youngest master chef in 300 years And there s this boy that Lailu the main character thinks is annoying And they live in a restaurant Heidi Lang An absolutely charming and delightful middle grade debut Perfect for kids who love magic a spunky heroine and adventure galore Highly recommended Heidi Lang This was a very fun world and a lot of fun in terms of plot and voice though it really feels oddly like a world set up for a much older audience that the authors defanged I mean you have loan sharks in the description the aforementioned loansharks disappear a dude and send his hand as a warning and you also have mad scientists kidnapping elves to make a tonic from their blood the court assassin who the main character has some PTSD flashbacks about seeing him dispatch a dude from close enough that she the main character is hit by the blood is a major player the main character s mentor has a gambling problem and abandons her in a moment of crisis the main character bargains the rest of her life with the elves in an attempt to help save her kleptomaniac best friend s life oh and she has a friendship maybe romance maybe friendship with a dude who she has major trust issues with due to his sabotaging her school career jokes and using her as bait previously while hunting monsters Which now that I write it all out really breaks down my unease with this book It is a lot of fun and nobody dies except maybe the aforementioned dude whose hand is sent as a warning it s slightly unclear if he disappeared of his own volition or not but there were all kinds of tropes that set off my AUGh alarms I am not sure that if I had read it at the age at which this is aimed I would have been so uneasy but personally because I know how all those tropes pan out I kept going yikes this is dark but fun but dark but fun but dark and waiting for the other shoe to drop Or maybe if I hadn t seen all these tropes end in truly impressive death tolls I would have just been all ahhhhh exciting HOW WILL THEY ALL SURVIVE One thing I am sure of for sure though is that the MC needs some trustworthy people in her life because right now she is believing in people who DO NOT DESERVE IT looking at you Chef and even well meaning friends have bad habits of like stealing from murdery nobles And her whatever ship with greg is just surrounded by question marks Heidi Lang Lailu Loganberry is a thirteen year old Jane of All Trades She s plucky chef specializing in cooking mythical beasts a monster hunter and junior restaurant entrepreneur This story has all the ingredients for a perfect MG read a plucky heroine thrilling monster hunts and all the steampunk gadgetry you can ask for And that s not to mention the delectable dragon cuisine and kraken hot pot Lailu is the original hipster chef and her start up restaurant Mystic Cooking is beyond cool Running a small business is hard made much harder by a loan shark an elven mafia and a fierce rivalry in the form of an annoyingly cute former classmate I love Lailu s fierce determination and enterprising nature a great role model for girls Middle Grade readers will delight in A Dash of Dragon and some may be inspired to pick up a spatula Heidi Lang Wow did I love this I was expecting a cute little MG about cooking always a good time lol but it was so much than that It was darker dangerous intense Mystic Cooking Only he didn t tell her he borrowed for the restaurant from a loan shark Mr Boss He included her in the terms both their fates are tied to the loan shark it s not good Not only does she have to deal w this but also a rival ex schoolmate Greg who also opened up a restaurant just like she did a best friend Hannah who is in hot water w people you don t want angry Elister the Bloody the Kings executioner who takes a liking to her food There s a lot going on lol it s such a page turner This is such a unique story full of creative characters the technology due to the scientists I was just to fascinated the whole time Ryon is the best lol All the characters are so vivid unforgettable I even kinda loved the Elves to be honest lol Lailu is the epitome of a strong female She literally Childrens a dash of dragons The Elven mafia livens things up as does the ruthless loan shark I might add that the threat of having to cook for said shark for the REST OF YOUR LIFE is a pretty good motivator, A dash of dragon epub free But the producer would be hard pressed to match the pace and imagination of this delightful romp: A dash of dragonk king Middle Grade readers will delight in this fantasy Heidi Lang
