The Late Roman ArmyA good succinct explanation of the changes that occurred in Roman military organization during the third and fourth centuries especially as reflected in the Notitia Dignitatum It also has lots of nice pictures 168 This is a great book for for a basic overview of the Late Romans and provides literally hundreds of wonderful color plates for those of you inclined to do painting This is a must have book for anyone wargaming this period as every uniform detail is covered and a huge section covers the shield designs and decorations nearly 60 pages The reference section is a bit sparse however and it includes nearly a full page of web site addresses for further reading referencing I m not a big fan of referencing Wikipedia I m afraid so off with a star for that The books referenced are pretty solid though and the writing itself was of good quality I enjoyed the book and will be using a great deal for my army painting A solid 4 Stars 168
