Dicing with the Dangerous Lord (Gentlemen of Disrepute #4) By Margaret McPhee
He was still her father Linwood knows what happened that night but in order to protect others he will say nothing in order to protect others There are various clues along the way that all may not be exactly as it seems There are several interesting twists before the truth is revealed. I enjoyed the development of their relationship as it builds slowly Both fight their feelings as they try to reconcile them with what they think they know about the other I will say that I got very angry at Venetia toward the end when she did something incredibly terrible to Linwood She allows her faith in him to be shaken twice.

As a child Margaret spent much of her time in an imaginary world Her family always said she would grow out of it she s still waiting Romance entered the equation when she chanced upon one of her gran s Mills Boon Historicals and she never looked back She s still reading them but at least she now buys her own Fortunately for Margaret her school library held a shelfful of old donated Georgette Heyer books Be still her beating teenage heart Her view on romance was skewed forever dashing rakes in buckskin pantaloons and riding boots figure in it somewhere Margaret wrote two manuscripts and suffered numerous rejections from publishers and agents before joining the Romantic Novelists Association A further two manuscripts later and with help from the Romantic Novelists Association s new writers scheme the regency romance The Captain s Lady was born. Margaret enjoys cycling tea and cakes although not necessarily in that order and loves exploring the beautiful scenery and wildlife of the islands of Scotland with her husband She is ever hopeful that one day she will be lucky enough to see a basking shark in the Firth of Clyde and a sea eagle in Skye site_link Wow Talk about ramping up the conflict Linwood has been painted as villain and even Venetia Fox celebrated actress out to win a confession of murder from him believes he is guilty Fabulous skirting around one another and taut with sexual tension this was one of those books I devoured in a single sitting Danger builds with every twist and turn and the scenes in Newgate sizzled Loved it Paperback Liked this historical romance with some mystery in it keept it interesting Paperback There wasn t anything particularly wrong with this I just couldn t get interested in the story Like at all I didn t care if the leads solved the mystery had sex worked out their issues or were kidnapped by aliens when that happens it s a sign the book just isn t for you As I said the writing was ok though the pace was so very slow the leads were ok the plot was ok aside from the ultra obvious villain his stupid reason for doing what he did But ultimately it was just another regency romance I m so incredibly bored with regency romances published after 1990 Seriously Aside from a very small handful of authors Sophia James Gail Ranstrom Kimberly Logan maybe a couple others I m about ready to give them up altogether because despite how different they manage to sound in their blurbs THEY RE ALL THE SAME FREAKIN STORY And I m sick of being disappointed Or bored Either way I m over it Old skool bodice rippers set in this era get a pass because they re immune to the perils of PC feels Paperback This was an enjoyable read I was surprised at how intriguing the main plot is and it even felt like a low key thriller in places I adored the friendships Venetia has with her fellow actresses it was so sweet The romance was okay but definitely wasn t the highlight of the book Paperback Good book Venetia is on a mission She needs to get close to Linwood and find a way to get the information she needs to accuse him of her father s murder As a skilled actress it shouldn t be too difficult She doesn t plan on the intense attraction she feels for him when they meet in person Linwood can tell that she s up to something he just doesn t know what it is But he s willing to go along with it to find out. I liked both Venetia and Linwood She is a very strong and determined woman Following her half brother s instructions she plans to get to know Linwood well enough for him to talk about what he had done From the beginning she has her assumptions about his character but when she meets him there is a connection she doesn t understand How can she be attracted to the man who killed her father There are times that she can see the ruthless dangerous man she s been told about but at others he s unexpectedly caring and compassionate The closer she gets to him the conflicted she is Sometimes she s certain he s innocent of the accusations but then something will happen to make her doubt As the days go on her heart gets involved She has secrets that make any chance of a relationship with him very complicated. Linwood is a man who is very calm and controlled on the surface That calmness is tested when he meets Venetia He can see her interest in him but he also feels that there is to it than just attraction So he s willing to play along until he can find out what it is The time he spends with her the he discovers that she is very different than what most people see The seductive actress is still there but underneath he discovers a kindhearted and caring woman He finds himself and fascinated by her Finding out what she s looking for puts them at odds because he has secrets of his own he has to keep. The mystery in this story was quite well done It is a continuation of the book His Mask of Retribution Venetia has been given this mission by her half brother who is the one who says there is a witness to Linwood leaving the house after the duke s death While she didn t like her father at all because of how he treated people though at least the second time she actually waited for an explanation She does come through for him when he needs her most Paperback
