And change This is an entertaining series and I definitely recommend it for readers who enjoy humor and adventurous romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a review The opinions expressed are my own English I ll have to DNF it for now There s nothing wrong with the book I just can t get into it right now xD I do want to pick it back up in a couple of weeks English Cam just wants to take his kids Gwen just wants to protect them And yet the crazy man who s after them doesn t want either to happen The Reluctant Warrior is an entertaining historical romance If you re looking for a deep story.

Gwen and Cam could nearly qualify as a beauty and the beast pairing with her sweet compassion and his gruff thundering persona Gwen is a natural homemaker healer and the kind of person who keeps things moving in the background Cam is a former army officer who is having a hard time embracing the former bit of his reality. I love that both characters despite their differences are willing to learn grow this isn t it But if you re looking for something lighthearted Well that s what Mary Connealy is known for Discover Nevada in its early days laugh or shake your head at the missteps along the way and keep flipping pages to see just how this story will end. The Reluctant Warrior is book 2 in the High Sierra Sweethearts series I did not read the first The Accidental Guardian but I was able to follow the story without difficulty I suspect some things would have had meaning if I d read the first and the loose threads will hopefully be tied up in book 3 Since the stories are chronological you ll want to read them in order if you plan to read the entire series This review was first published on my blog sarahruut. com I received a complimentary copy of this novel The thoughts expressed here are entirely my own English I read this during a week of mass shootings in the US and came across this It s not about the world we live in it s about our souls Be not afraid because whatever happens in this life if we put our trust in God He is with us and our souls are safe Believing in God is the great fortress the great refuge. Thank you Mary for these words of wisdom And Bethany House for another beautiful book cover English Union army Cameron Scott is used to being obeyed without question But nothing about his journey to Lake Tahoe has gone the way he planned it He planned only to pick up his daughter and nephew and to get revenge on the ones who murdered his brother and sister in law Instead he s found himself stranded by blizzards in a cabin with two small children who have no memory of him and are absolutely terrified by him There s also the stubborn beautiful Gwen Harkness who he fears has no intention of releasing his children to him Things change when danger descends on the cabin everyone is staying in and he s injured in trying to defend everyone During his recovery time he s stuck in the cabin giving him a chance to get to know his daughter and nephew betterand to get to know Gwen better He quickly finds himself starting to care deeply for her and believes she feels the same way It doesn t take him long to see why his children adore Gwen so much and he begins to wonder if it wouldn t be better for their sakes to leave them with her Seeing Cam s broken heart over the children Gwen decides to help him relate to and bond with the small children And as she helps him win the children s hearts he also wins hers. I really enjoyed reading this second installment of the High Sierra Sweethearts series The characters are all relatable and it was good to get a chance to visit with the characters that were introduced in the first book as well as being introduced to Cameron and his sister Mary Conneally has definitely done a lot of research into the time period and the area the series is set in and it absolutely shows She also has a knack for description that comes out in the vivid scenery and in the way the storyline develops I m absolutely glad that this isn t the last book in the series because I m enjoying the setting and the characters so much I absolutely can t wait until book 3 comes out I d like to thank Mary Connealy Bethany House Publishing and Netgalley for providing me with an electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review I understand that receiving the book in this manner doesn t obligate me to leave a positive review and all opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own English This second book in the High Sierra Sweethearts series continues the adventure in the wilds of Nevada I love the absolute remoteness of the setting and in winter it s especially isolated Cam is stuck in the rut of his officer persona and it s pretty humbling for him to realize that he has to change in order to win the affections of the children Gwen is the mother figure in the lives of the children and it s humbling for her to help a difficult man who will soon take them away from her There is plenty of humor blended in the circumstances though and I chuckled every time Gwen literally smacked Cam upside the head to let him know he needed to chill The danger and suspense continues with Raddo terrorizing the group in order to silence the witnesses to his crimes I liked that he was a bit complex and unpredictable in this book and it was challenging for Trace Cam and the others to secure the homestead The romance that develops between Cam and Gwen is hesitant and sweet and it was nice to see them find a happy ending together I received a complimentary copy of the book all opinions in this review are my own English His voice was too loud his manner too abrupt He treated everyone like soldiers under his command. Former Union army officer Cameron Scott has a problem he barks out orders to everyone around him including his family his friends and the children he so desperately wants to re claim as his own His own daughter is scared of him she and his orphaned nephew both run to the way too lovely and stubborn as a mule Gwen Harkness every time he even enters a room But when a vicious attack confirms that a cold blooded killer is still on the loose Cam becomes determined to change his ways. Enjoy this fun flirtatious family feuding that takes the benefits of moonlight kisses to a whole new level English I finished listening to this in a little over a day I think I liked this even better than the first book in the series Like all of Mary Connealy s books this is chock full of action and danger It literally starts with the characters in immediate peril of death That s just what I m looking for in a book lol The characters were actually fairly toned down for this author s writing style though they still have a tendency to be impulsive I expect large almost unrealistic personalities in this author s books That s just how she writes so it doesn t bother me I know some people didn t like the first book so much because Trace s approach to Christianity is a littledifferent after so many years of living by himself This book is a little traditional in its approach fitting with the main character s traditional view on life So if you had issues with the first book there you won t have the same issue with this book There is some depth to this book than the last one but it s still a Mary Connealy book It s meant to be a rip roaring adventure and everything else takes a back seat to that And this one certainly delivered on the adventure part After reading this book I can t wait for the third book in the series English This story was right up my alley I loved the grand adventure of it all and the marriage of convenience angle was done well There was urgency and action from the jump and it only thickened as the story progressed I liked that Mrs Connealy was not afraid of injuring a lead to give him or her the best possible redemption story This reminded me of Tracie Peterson s writing because she sometimes does the same with equally fantastic results. The cover was super sweet and I was glad to see that the romance within held up to that standard Cameron and Gwen were charming even as they were sometimes brusque or harsh There were reasons that made sense and I liked that they had to learn to be different to grow together in order to obtain their goals. The children were darling and played great roles and I especially loved that the core story was about a father trying to earn his children s love I feel like this is an important part of being a parent to act in ways that foster love for us in our children to inspire them to love even as we teach them how. Weather played a huge role in this story and that delighted me so much It was such fun to have the story jump started with a blizzard packed cabin and to see how the characters reacted to such urgency as a smoke filled house with no way out What a fantastic beginning I liked how the snow and chinook were used throughout the story because they heightened not only the level of urgency but the stakes and adventure and peril as well. The Pinkerton being sent to fetch home a certain somebody was very realistic This aspect had my heart in my throat and I had to keep reading to see how things would play out This very well added to the tension and left me on pins and needles until I knew for sure which way things would go I found the people who hired him to be interesting characters and I have to wonder if they ll make an even bigger appearance in the final book of the trilogy, Find Mary online at SeekervillePetticoats Pistols site_link My Website site_link Full review on FaithfullyBookish, Content replacement expletive swearing by the name of heaven nudity brief alcohol tattoos English 3.5Reading Challenge Categories ReadingUSA Nevada English.
